    Frozen Snus

I was wondering if it is normal for snus that has been frozen to have what looks like freezer burn?

And if that effects the over all quality and so on.

I currently have it thawing at room temp for transition to fridge.

    Does that sound right?

I'm not sure what freezer burned snus would look like, ice crystals? When I take a tin out of the freezer, I put it in the fridge, or I'll use some straight off. I never really thaw it out or anything.

Yea, I'd say that's normal. I haven't found that it affects the flavor much. I guess it would eventually, but it takes awhile. Some of my portions that have been frozen for over 9 months aren't quite as good as new, but my lös that's been frozen for 7 months is still fine.

When I take 1 out of the freezer I usually toss it into the refrigerator for a day to to reconstitute. I also shake the can a bit to allow any surrounding moisture to make contact with snus. This seams to prevent the snus from drying out.

Now that I have typed that, I think it may be more of a ritual for me because a can doesn't last me more that 2 weeks and I think evaporation would be minimal.

I bought a used foodsaver on ebay for like $40 shipped. Makes a noticable difference in the freshness of a can after it has been frozen/thawed.

Why would someone freeze snus? It keeps in the fridge perfectly

It keeps longer in the freezer. I have about 220 tins of snus stocked, and I doubt they'd be in very good shape if I just kept them in the fridge.

Yeah, i found it more rewarding to order in bulk because i dont have to worry about running out.

Im sure continuous freezing and thawing would be harmful to it but i only plan on taking it out and thawing it once then using it, not back in forth.

The landstroms was fine after it thawed. I splashed a very small amount of water on it and it was good, if not better, than new, and still moist.

Ive been in the position where i ran out 2 days before the order came, and triumph just doesnt cut it.

Its good stuff, but once you get use to the real stuff you can go back.

I have 10 cans of skruf los, 4 of which i thought i wouldnt use by the best before date, so they went in the freezer while the others went in the fridge

I've moved to taking a portion straight from the freezer when I'm at home. I don't even bother with the fridge. I love it, it's the best way if you ask me. I just gently chew the portion for a minute or so (Becareful, i've broken one portion open before) to break it up so it's not a frozen block. After broken up to standard non frozen consistancy, slide it up to it's home and enjoy. It's fantastic!

                      I agree.

I love portions straight out of the freezer.

I think Xobe's onto something with the food-saver. Since I don't have one, I've been storing rolls of snus in freezer bags. They seem just fine to me after thawing in the fridge.

Don't spend those two pennies in one place now...

Yeah. Freezer bags work just fine. I just wanted a new toy.

Triumph IS real swedish snus. Manufactured and marketed for their idea of American tastes.

but its alittle sweet, good but sweet.

I keep my snus stored in freezer bags and the tobacco looks perfectly fine. As well, I try to vacuum most of the air out by inhaling it before I store the bags.
