    Swedish Defacto?

Are there any snusing Sweedish here? Just curious, is there a particular flavour/brand that is the popular choice there? (Like, here in MN, like about 75% of my smoking friends smoke Camel Lights... I've always viewed Camel Lights as the defacto cig here)

General is the Swedish standard as I understand it.

Doesn't it have like something like 70% of the market share?? I know it's huge, dwarfs everything else.

We wonder why sometimes when snus manufacturers make the changes they do. Especially when they stop a forum favorite. We forget I think, that we are just a drop in the bucket. What sells in Sweden drives the market, not what sells here.

My wife's cousin married a Swede. He uses Grov loose. They came to visit recently and it was so cool to have someone to talk about snus with. I noticed he only kept his pris in for like 15 minutes. He also didn't really bake it, just pushed a pinch into the side of the can like dip. He said Ettan is popular with his circle of acquaintances in Sweden. They lived in the states for the last couple years and were moving to Sweden after their visit. She was still learning Swedish. He said he'd been buying his snus online while in America and was really surprised I had some.

General (mostly portion and white portion) is by far the most popular here in Sweden, closely followed by Göteborgs Rapé, Ettan and Grovsnus. But due to the ever increasing taxes on snus here, many people are choosing the cheaper brands....Kronan, Granit. Like bakerbarder said, most swedes keep their pris in for about 15 - 20mins up to 40mins max portion snus.

I lived in Norway for a year, and pretty much all everyone used was general - both portion and loose. A few of my mates used goetesberg rape and the catch licorice, and i used general white and skruf stark. Most over there use plain ol General

Funny, I don't see a lot of people talking that much about General around this forum. Maybe they are so great that nobody needs to talk about them. I think they are ho-hum, especially for the price. There are so many, lower cost, better tasting alternatives out there that one would be crazy to buy General snus. Hell, if you want to pay that price, at least buy something really good like Ettan loose.

I get the feeling it's a cultural thing, like how most people in the United States will smoke Marlboro Lights when there are better choices, just because it's "the thing to do". Or Budweiser, or Coca-Cola, etc. Here most of us don't have that cultural pressure and can seek out the right taste for ourselves.

Also, I noticed when I was traveling there recently that SM does have a strong presence. Of all the snus refrigerators I saw in many convenience stores and gas stations, only one had a full line of brands. It was nice to finally see the brands I use, even though I wouldn't buy any because of the high price, and had brought plenty anyway.

I agree that General is so-so at best.

I love their Onyx portions but those are too expensive and have hardly any tobacco in them.

There are quite a few very good companies that make great snus out there and i would rather buy from them and support them,

                  Down with the monopoly.
