I'm fairly sure the worst connotation of the term leans more toward Oedipus and less toward your average cougar hunter. The latter can be a source of pride for some; the former, I sure hope not.

While your snippet of etymological theory does suggest there was an encouraging revival of Sophocles among inner city youth..........my bet is that the expression derived from the use of "mother" to denote the chief example of something (thus: "that was the mother of all storms") which was then combined with f*cker to denote the worst f*cker of all.

But regardless......you do get 10 bonus points just for referencing a Greek tragedy cycle in a snuson post
