    Ettan Tins Shrinking

I noticed the newer tins are a couple millimeters shorter than the old 50g tins. They've been light for awhile now, and I guess they decided it wouldn't do having 42g of snus rattling around in a 50g tin. The difference is very subtle, and I predict future shrinkage once people get used to the new smaller size. If they made it the correct size all at once, people would notice they were getting screwed out of snus, and that it costs more than the price on the tin indicates. At 42g, you're getting 1.6 fewer tins per roll. The next tin shrink will probably coincide with a reduction to 40g, or 2 fewer tins per roll. In 10 years it'll probably come in 2g mylar wrapped packets; sold at nearly the same price of course.

I don't fully blame Swedish Match. They're trying to hide the taxes from consumers, but that's bad too. If people are placated, they won't complain. Taxes will continue to rise without a peep, and tins will continue to get smaller. They should be packed in 50g tins, and priced as necessary. Fliers showing how much of the cost is going to taxes, and contact information for the legislators should be provided at point of sale. Get people angry about what's going on instead of clandestinely removing snus.

I guess snus is like everything else. As much as we try to deny it, it shrinks as it gets older.

It´s much better than using original bigger cans with air instead of missing snus. I believe can without empty space prevents drying and other deterioration of snus much better tan a half-empty one. Or 8-of-50 empty.

I somewhat agree, but I'd prefer they put 50g in the 50g tin :^D

The size reduction isn't enough to make up for the lack of snus. They're moving in that direction, and hoping no one notices. That's what bothers me about the whole thing; the lack of honesty. They raise the price without raising the price, and they try to hide it.

Looks like you can do that or up your prices. I'm on buysnus right now and holy shit it was just a few short months ago rolls of thunder were at about 25-29 I believe and now they are hitting the 35 mark. Even Oden's portions are starting to creep up in price. Still a smaller price for a better product in my personal opinion but still....I know inflation exists but certainly not by that amount. I suppose it's some sort of tax increase/health care reform bullshit

Could also be the exchange rate. I don't track them, but if the dollar falls in relation to the euro, prices will go up for Americans.

I wanted to say that first, but didn't want to take the time to look it up. I gambled on them using the euro and lost :^(

They should take it the rest of the way, and get out of the EU.

Agreed, as should we in the UK.

I believe consumer psychology prevents it. The brand which does that disadvantages itself and leaves more room for competitors. It happens in many types of food, which is why there sometimes is a regulation that a certain product (e.g. quart of milk) must be packed in certain volume (a quarter of gallon?).

BTW, how many cigarettes are there in a standard pack? When I smoked, there were 20. Nowadays the EU Komisaars propose a directive that there must be 20 of them. Seems some companies only put in 16 or so...

Mostly still 20s, but some brands, Pall Mall, only do 19, some brands do 18 or 16. In Germany the norm is 18/19 for tax reasons, but you can buy 20 or 30 packs, we still have 10 packs, but not anymore thanks to the EU!

Not yet! Not yet! Wait until the last of our gypsies settle on your island first, please. Then leave the EU, close the border and shoot everyone trying to swim back to the Continent.

We could legitimately deport them then!

I would love to see Pioneer again. I loved their 50 gram can.
