    The Bin

I don't know how many Snus users here (or anywhere else) first started this long, long road to finding their always favorite Swedish Snus.

I mean the one and only Snus brand/flavor that they stay with always. And they never deviate from.

    And I mean always!

I know dip guys who have been dipping forever and they never, ever even want to try a new dip. Ever!

I am new to this experience and I am determined to find my one and only first choice Snus.

The way I have been going about this is to buy as many cans as I see that might be a possibility. I just order them and try 'em.

It is sort of a long process. But I keep on 'truckin.

    My point?

I open a new can and I sit back and give one sample a try. And I know! No ifs or maybes about it.

New can....one shot only.....either I love it....or it goes in The Bin (that's a UK expression).

Did you guys do it this way or do you just suffer through a new (never tried) opened can that you don't like?

    Me.....life is too short.

Dan..... you should never ever bin a snus. Your tastes will change, and develop over time. That is one thing I have learned from this site.

Taste in snus changes. There's some I just don't like, but I've given everything an extended, and long term trial. If I don't like it, it goes in the freezer and I try it again later. I've gotten burned on snus I /thought/ I liked. I'd try a tin, buy a roll or more, and it sits in the freezer cause I got tired of it after the second tin. The traditional flavor profile can take time for the American palate to adjust to, but it's the superior formulation imo. It'll still be around after all the flavor of the day snus is left to the history books.

Dan, it's not like cigs that I used to smoke one brand, and never think of changing. Snus, I've found a few that I like a lot. Sometimes you feel like a mint, sometimes you don't. Sometimes I miss the bergamot taste of Generals, use it for a couple of days, and switch to Ettan or Roda Lacket. It's just me but, it's kinda like eating the same thing for dinner every day..after a while, I get a taste for something else..

That's a valid point. But I think that the purpose of the flavored blends is an introductory step for new generations of potentially lifetime Snus users.

Without the mints, melons, licorice, and the myriad other sweeteners: first time buyers (and they really want new people) would never stay with the Snus. Years ago taste buds were not as conditioned as they are today in our modern times.

Back in the day Henry Ford told his customers that they could buy any color Ford they wanted as long as it was black.

And every other product line back then offered the same (one color/ taste fits all) possibilities.

Snus is more widely accepted and used today because there are millions of people who now fall in love with a "watermelon" with nicotine as a chaser.

          Dan

          P.S.

I took your advice and went to my bin and retrieved a brand new (once tried) can of Odens Extreme Cold.

Like lxskllr: I popped it in the freezer. It'll probably still be there when my heirs come to clean out my house after my funeral.

But I see the points that all you kind folks have given

Well...........I had one "go to" snus.....[as some of the members here can tell you] and that was the OffRoad Coffee/vanilla which OR quit making. The Vogel Brothers know coffee snus is the only snus I use and before they discontinued that flavor they emailed me to tell me to stock up. That was about 4 or 5 years ago. When I ran out of my stock I pleaded with the Vogel Boys to make it again. They said it didn't sell well enough to make it full time but they were kind enough to make a limited edition so I could stock up again. Which I did. Sadly that stock ran out but about the time I ran out OffRoad came out with a "new" Coffee Supreme that is actually coffee/vanilla in disguise. I was able to stock up again. But sadly, that was discontinued as well. As a side note....all the batches of coffee/vanilla and the coffee supreme were just a tad different recipe but they were all pretty dam good.

I still have many rolls of the coffee supreme vacumn sealed and in the freezer ...as well as one lonely roll of the original Coffee/Vanilla.

After hitting up a few of the smaller snus manufacturers to make their version of a coffee snus it was only Dear Mr. GN that stepped up to the plate and made a coffee flavored snus for us. Although if I pleaded with the Vogel Brothers I know they would at least make another limited edition coffee snus for us. I had sent GN a couple of tins of the OR coffee/vanilla to give him an idea of what we wanted. Actually what I wanted. Low and behold GN made the Old Ving 99 which is a great compromise of all the different recipes that I have had so far. GN did a great job and it seems that this flavor has a decent following. Thanks Dear Mr. GN.

Anyway.....YEA I have a single flavor of snus that I use and I will quit using snus if I can't get this flavor I crave. Actually I'll make my own coffee snus if I have to. I don't like any other flavor. When I first started using snus I tried all the different brands and flavors available to me. As the manufacturers came out with new flavors I tried them as well over the years. But I would only try one tin and many tins I simply gave away after I tried a few portions. Most people will tell you to seal and freeze what you don't like and revisit it after some time. True enough...your tastes will change. However, I've gotten to the point that I usually don't bother even trying most of the new offerings anymore unless it sounds really good or the reviews warrant giving that flavor a try.

The Catch Layafette Street is a dam good Spearmint flavor that I don't mind using if the world came to an end. But the rest of the snus on the market tastes like shit to me.....many members will disagree tho. Dan, I think you and I may have the same tastes and desires in snus. If not that then we both want a single flavor that we love and can depend upon having available.

There was another snus that was made that I really loved. That was Triumph Mint [spearmint actually]. That was only made for a short time...a long time ago, even before I found the OR Coffee/vanilla. I have a few tins of that stashed away as well. Its really sweet and was only marketed in the USA for their tastes. Too dam bad they quit making it. I never did figure out who actually made it tho. It was in my early phase of snus. It was one of the first snus that I tried. I spent a year or so trying to figure out who made it and during that time I ended up trying most all flavors I could find. If you like sweet and spearmint you would have loved this snus.

So there you go. I suppose and may be one of the few members here that is absolutely stuck on one flavor and would rather not even use snus if I could get my coffee snus.

Thank you Mark and Patrik Vogel and thanks to you as well Dear Mr. GN.

otoh.....I vape a bit in the evening.....I love the different flavors. Out of the over 3000 flavors of ejuice available I have only tried about 100. But there is only a handful that I just don't care for... ecigs don't do much to satisfy me...so its coffee snus that I love.

Good luck mate. sorry for the long rant

FYI Dan...I think most all the members here already know that I can't type either. Well I can type but it never makes any sense. I am blind so I have a service dog that types for me. Hes pretty good at it too. All I have to do is dictate to him and he does all the typing. Thank the Lord for spell check. Please keep in mind that sometimes he posts and doesn't tell me. Therefore.....you never know what might be posted under my username.

Get married mate.....then you will have your own sausage machine.

I got your sausage machine right here mate.

So you need to buy an actual sausage making machine or a fleshlite?

I know you are working on the coffee snus. I still think that if someone gets it right it would be a best seller and most everybody would like it. I hope you can do it. Thanks

Dear Mr. Gn knows that much of what hes been so kind to send me I send out as samples around the world to promote his products. [It helps me out as well because I always send out freebies when I send snus to my friends]. I do love trying his different varieties tho. I know he uses better quality tobacco than most. Hes doing a fine job makeing a wide selection of different flavors for everyone and it appears that his business is booming.
