    Frustrated dude

Hey people. Ive been using snuff/snoose for around 2-3 years, started when i was 16 or something and im 20 this summer. My gums is broken, the gums of the teeth goes up of course which is normal but, according to my dentist so it not snuff in my case that caused this. I was brushing too hard and have done that for a very long time indeed. My question is if my gums where the gums have withdrawn will take extra damage?
I really miss having a big one under my lip, something very important is missed badly in my life. Some swedish tobacco

Not sure about dip, but traditional snus shouldn't be too bad. The big danger is you have unenameled tooth exposed, and it'll be more susceptible to rot. Cut down on sugary foods/drinks, and keep them brushed with a soft bristled brush.

Thanks for ur answer, mate. I do love snus, i take one then and one then. I feel like something big is missing. I brush my teeth good now, not hard and i got a brush that is very soft. But i drink a lot of soda, "coca cola addicted" :$

That's the thing to quit. I used to drink tons at work; 88oz+ per day, but after I got laid off, I wasn't going to convenience stores a couple times per day, and it was money I could save by not drinking it. I lost the taste for it, and drink it very infrequently now. My main drink is unsweetened iced tea. I usually blend real tea, and flavored herb tea, though my favorite is straight Earl Grey. For a treat, I get the occasional bottle of sparkling water. I like German water for plain(Gerolsteiner, Apollonaris), and any old flavored water for something like soda. Discount is fine. Orange is my favorite normal flavor, and I like vanilla and white chocolate for weird flavors. They taste kind of like an unsweetened cream soda.

Welcome to Snuson. Since you have some gum recession, I would suggest using a high fluoride toothpaste too. My dentist wrote me a prescription for special toothpaste. The name of the product is PreviDent. Here is a photo:

Anyone who frequently uses oral tobacco products directly in the mouth needs to be religously aware of frequent oral hygiene.

Given the "assumption" that your teeth are cared for in the normal brushing and flossing manner after eating you need (must) go another mile if Snus and/or Dip is in your menu.

The point of loving oral tobacco is the hope that you can continue to enjoy it for the duration.

This will be a royal pain in the ass for you if you want to "protect" your teeth and gums, and overall dental health.

You need to be aware that after every use .....you are not yet done.

If possible quickly (lightly!!!) re brush with a bit of paste and a soft bristle brush.

And then rinse your mouth with an over the counter mouthwash with 21% alcohol solution.

I know......a totally laugh! But you asked what you or anyone can do to really keep you enjoying tobacco and as far away from a doctor's sad and very bad prognosis as possible.

Or just leave this stuff alone.

            Dan

I have gum recession from my time of using dip. That was the course of 8 years (14-22 years old) and have had some lower jaw/tooth pain because of it. Like most everyone else here has stated, as long as you keep care of your teeth after every use, brushing, flossing, mouthwash, you should be able to stave off unwanted effects.

a soft brush bristle is best to combat gum recession.

there have been a few threads posted here where the members dentist stated their oral health is actually better since using snus. Not sure what to think of that. I have an appointment tomorrow with a doctor that is actually way more than a regular dentist. I know her personally and she knows I use snus so it will be interesting to see what she says. She is a new dentist to me....my other dentist is a total ass and I refuse to see him anymore. Wish me luck tomorrow.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

My new dentist was giving me a talk about smokeless last time I was there. It started off with "Have you thought about quitting?" me"Nope". Then I got the talk about mouth cancer, and moving the snus around. There were a couple technical inaccuracies, but overall it was low key and polite. I don't bother arguing anymore. I let 'em give their speech, thank them, and go on with my business. If they otherwise do their job right, what they say doesn't matter.

As long as we're into this medical thread: I would like to point out something that I did not mention in my original post.

And I am not trying to point out something that you may not already know.

It is important when you brush your teeth after oral tobacco use that you not only just brush the teeth.

Also brush the gum area all the way down as far as possible especially in the area where the product was placed. Do the same area for the entire mouth.

All the way down below the tooth line as far as the brush will go.

Now if you really want to go to the next level an electric brush is your friend.

                          Keep in mind.

For every single "pleasure" in life there is a price we have to pay for that pleasure.

You can pay it today and keep on coming back for more or you can avoid paying it now and wait until the bill comes due (and it always will in life) and then no money will cover the cost.

                          Dan

Ive heard white portions is more bad to your gum because it is more irritating to your gum? Also snus with less salt (ettan snus) is better??

Drinking sugary drinks is a hell of a lot worse for dental hygiene than using pasteurised Swedish tobacco.
