    I quit... sort of.

I never used cigarettes so I'm not sure what that's like. It must be hell to quit.

I used smokeless though, plug or dips, until I discovered snus.

I used snus for about a year until it became hell to import and buy online.

Then I quit. & I'm here to tell you, you can too! Nicotine doesn't help you do anything. It doesn't help with stress, it doesn't help with concentration, it's all a lie.

At the same time, I tend to relapse when I'm single. When I don't have to worry about having a nice mouth to kiss, it's easy for my eyes to spot the dip. Currently, I'm not single but I relapsed during a particularly stressful period at work when I was working 12-14 hour days and so forth. I've been using Skoal pouches maybe 2-5 times a day for the past few weeks.

I intend to quit again. You can too. I'm not really sure what I'm trying to say. I think snus is a godsend though, and I encourage anyone to ****ing stop. The withdrawal is not that bad.

I would never encourage someone that wasn't already addicted to nicotine to try snus, or any other product that contained nicotine for that matter. That being said, anyone that is currently addicted to nicotine should give Swedish snus a try, it's far more discreet than any other form of tobacco product. I'd ask that they also read up on the harm reduction aspects of Swedish snus that are supported by so many clinical studies that can be Googled.

I can understand not wanting to be addicted to nicotine, so quit if you can't deal with it, or just want to free from it's grip. However, if you cannot quit, snus is always a better option for the nicotine addicted.

Oh, and congrats on quitting :-)

I'll try to make it short (yeah, sure Dan).

Started smoking at around eight. Every brand then known to man.
Cigaretts, cigars, pipes and then Dip.
Stopped cigars at around twenty three.
Quit cigarettes and all other tobacco at forty.
        Always missed tobacco.
Nothing at all for the next thirty three years.
        Figure out the math.
Bought a can of Skoal Wintergreen six months ago.
        Loved it.
Went to the The Northerner and Swedish Snus.
        Dropped around $500 there.
Decided to return to my great love from Day One (no, not cigarettes). Cigars: after fifty years away from them.
Walking away from Snus now....not quite the thing for me.
Into maybe $600 to $700 in cigars and cigar paraphernalia at this stage.
        Why?
In the winter of my years I found both Ducati and an old, old love affair that I walked out on way back in my youth.
Life is short and the winter is cold.

That's about as short as (even I) can make it.

        Dan

Keep drugs away from kids. There's not enough for us adults as it is.

if you quit something like tobacco that is so addictive you have to really hate it if you want to quit it. imo.

That pretty much nails it... I was drunk when I posted last night, & I love alcohol(which I've never been able to quit for more than a period of weeks.) I've gone about a full year + off nicotine before though (April 2011-May 2012.) My last dry period was June 2012- December 2013, the longest yet since starting.

It's strange though- I've hated that I use nicotine and been unable to quit, and I've been fine with it and able to(because I was dating and self concious.) It can really get a grip on your neurochemisty, but quitting can be as easy as not doing it. 3 days of withdrawal and you're fine.

Snus is a good stepping stone from the cigarette. I now know that I will never smoke a cigarette again and so if I ever gave up snus, that would be it for good. It's an excellent extricator from the smokes. The addiction to snus is a little bit of a pain but the enjoyment is outweighing that at the moment.
I've given up cigarettes 6 years in March and I haven't missed them once since snussing.

                Good luck to you.

maybe he is drinking more now that he has quit tobacco which isn't particularly a good thing...

While I will say congratz on quitting. Its an accomplishment to be proud of. But, Nicotine helping with stress, and with concentration is in no way a lie. It does in fact help with both. While you can cope with stress and concentrate as a nicotine free person, it does in fact help with both, for those that intake nicotine. Whether mental or physical, it still does in fact help.

If I'm already in an on going stressful situation it doesn't help me relax, in fact I'd say it ramps it up for me.
After a stressful event it does help me relax.
                            Nicotine can go both ways.

Huh? Looks like your the one whose doing whatever it is you accused me of. I just pointed out that he contradicted himself and as Badaxe said there is proof that it helps at least some people with concentration and anxiety not to mention memory and has been shown to help Parkinsons patient's as well as alzheimers.. To just say it's all a lie with no proof to back it up is just a lie.
