D.I.Y portions

Hey guys, back after a cold turkey quit that lasted about 5 months. Crazy how the craves never really went away. Anyways it's fun being back to the hobby side of snusing, trying new products and such. So I placed an order for 2 cans of ettan los, because I used to LOVE ettan OP. I got los to save money. Anyone know a safe/soft material I can use for making portions? I do remember a thread about using rolling papers and the poster was worried if it was safe or not. Other than that, I have tried tea bags years ago but I seemed rough and unpleasant. I think teabags are the most obvious choice, so anyone have other ideas? What have you tried?

Main reason I want to do this is because I work in a kitchen, and I can't be worrying about loose tobacco in my mouth in such a hectic, fast paced job. I have no problem using los at home relaxing.

I use teabags cut to small pieces. I find them perfect. No real difference between them and OP I sometimes use. After making tea I take the bag, use scissors to cut off the top, open the bag (only works on those which are not glued, only sort of folded to keep their shape), wash the tea out and I have some 3*3 inch sheet of high quality portion paper

cnash has a good video on You Tube showing how to make very professional quality portions. ....heat sealed using a soldering iron. It looks like the easiest way is with the heat seal tea bags, cheap on ebay, etc. I have 1.5 mg Roda Lacket longs on my to do list.

If you can find a Swedish shop to send them to you then you can buy empty portions to fill up with an icetool or 8mm syringe with the end cut off.

The ones I've got are called Prillan Portionspåsar



You get 200 in a packet - but they're double length and you have to cut them in half to use so you get 400 portions from a packet.

Ansel had some success wrapping los in Rizlas (rice based roll your own cigarette papers) - so you could give that a go too.

This is what I did when I was trying it as a proof of concept. I was happy with the results, and would do that instead of buying portion snus. It helps I don't use portions much, so the effort is minimal for me; maybe two portions per day.

Frankie or Squeezy, are you familiar with any portion material that seals with pressure rather than heat?

I've never seen anything like that trebli - the Prillan ones are heat sealable if you want to make them in advance ... but if you're looking for something that you can easily just make and use straight away you can simply fold the end over as you put it in. I've never had one leak that way unless I've really smooshed it around.

Not a portion material, but a container. If you use a very flat box, place homemade portions in and close it, the portions will not move. They will flatten and sort of seal themselves with the juice from the snus soaking into the bent ends of the teabag paper. Good enough to carry around and place under the lip. If you take portions out and try to juggle with them, they would come apart. They are not sealed per se. I use this:

Yea like I said, the tea bag material was unpleasant. The rolling paper seems like something I'm gonna try out.

how is the taste when you do this? I imagine it's a little "less" flavorful than straight los...am I wrong?

Not really less, but sort of slower. It takes longer before you feel the taste. I use my loose to make portions as well as to use just as it is. Portions take longer to feel the taste and are way easier to spit out.

EDIT: This also depends on how much paper you fold. Less paper means faster taste.

I picked up some Rizlas today, they feel pretty soft. Still waiting on my los order and I will try it out.

Have some ettan los in a Rizla right now. These papers get my thumbs up. Much more comfortable than a tea bag.
