    My rebutal is this.

Check out the status on capital hill. One of the biggest and worst things for us is happening.

States are making it ILLEGAL to send tobacco through the mail. Its already passed in five states i know of.

Also Here is how it already works out that you are essentialy being taxed.
Yes, this si freight but you might as well think of it as a tax.

Buysnus. (Product in question is General Los)

1 can is $3.73 before shipping.

Here is the Price Per Can with shipping.

    Quantity Ordered-----------Price Per Can

    1 - $8.11 a Can
    2 - $6.15 a Can
    3- $5.34 a Can
    4 - $4.94 a Can
    5 - $5.01 a Can
    6 - $4.80 a Can
    7 - $4.65 a Can
    8- $ 4.53 a Can

    A roll is $4.31 a can.

There is basically your tax. You only save money by ordering in rolls and im sorry but i havent found one snus i like enough to always order rolls in.

I have about 3 favorites and can not go through 30 cans in 3 months.

And i still feel that freezing snus causes flavor loss and its just not the same. At least in my opinion.

So there is your tax. Now for people in certain states where cost of living is higher then yeah it would suck. Snus could be easily over $5 a can.

But I would say it would average the same as American Snuff. $2-$5 a can.

Same thing you are paying online.

So keep your fingers crossed that it doesnt soon become illegal to receive tobacco through mail in your states guys.

If you guys are worried about tax think about us Brits... Tobacco products are heavily taxed here, a pack of Camel cigarettes costs roughly $11, I'd hate to end up paying around £6 per can. Like somebody already mentioned you already have oral tobacco and it isn't that heavily taxed.

I can understand wanting to keep snus your little secret, and I feel the same, but going by my friends' reaction to their seeing it and trying it I can't really see it taking off.

What's snus??? It sounds to me like a ploy of the tobacco companies to get kids hooked on tobacco. Ban!!!

Are you guys serious? This is on the fringe of fanaticism.

The fact that it is yours, you want to keep it to yourself, no one needs to know about it, its made in sweden so lets leave it there, and i love waiting 5 days or more for it to come in the mail is border line fanaticism.

This is bad for the companies we all love and support.

Much of you Los lovers like myself have expressed the depression that there is not enough Los like there is portion.

Well without growth and a stagnant market why should they incorporate more flavors. Brand "X" and Brand "Z" Los are great sellers and there really isnt enough market increase to produce a new flavor so X and Z will be what we continue to sell.

Johhny Los? Good Luck, not enough sales to bring it back.

Improvement and Diversification only come with an increase of interest in a certain category.

Sure, there are alot of portions to choose from but I am tired of getting one email a month with a brand that has been discontinued.

I support growth and will rejoice the day that snus comes to america from across the pond.

I do love waiting 5 days for my snus to get to me. That means I don't have to get in the car and go to a store to buy it. I used to get American Spirit tobacco in the mail. I called their toll free number, and a week later the tobacco showed up on my door step, and it was cheaper than I could get locally. That stopped after RJR bought them out, and they became subject to that atrocious tobacco settlement.

Gotland and Gellivare won't be selling snus over here, they barely sell snus in Sweden. I don't want to be stuck using General, and a bunch of lame ass Camel clones from the American makers.

I agree with you on the fact that Gotlands and Good ol Gellivare would have no interest here.

I mean I realize there is a certain mystique when you are asked , What is That? and I love to reply, " Oh, its swedish tobacco. It has a rich history and much healthier for you than american stuff."

I have actually found my swedish snus is an interesting conversation starter, especially with people trying to quit smoking who have started using American Dip.

Here in the south oral tobacco is widely accepted.

Ive actually been at a party talking about it and one girl over heard the conversation and said, " Oooooo Gross, dip is just nasty."

At about that time one girl stated she would rather her boyfriend dipped than smoke. All the other girls agreed saying they hate ashtray mouth.

This is one of those lovely slippery slope threads.......

I respect all of the opinions voiced so far, all I'm doing is posting my thoughts and they are in NO WAY an attack on anyone.......

                Now - let's all attack Grim (j/k).....

As for states who are banning the sale of tobacco by mail, that's for retailers only. An individual can still import any legal tobacco without problem. If it is suspected for retail, the customs service can take it, but the state itself can't touch it (at this time - mail is still a Federal thing). The "big 3" resellers will ship to any of those states.

In a price-per-tin cost, yes - local pruchases are cheaper.
However I compare it to buying a carton of smokes to a single pack. Of course the single pack price is more, so you buy in cartons to save some. In my case, I would never have just 1 can shipped in - my orders are never below $80 (with shipping). And I know that it's a personal thing if you freeze tobacco or not, so far I haven't ever had a problem doing that (and I smoked pipes for a long time freezing tobacco by the pound).

Onto the local tax thing - please note that I'm in Khalifornia - we're like a bowl of granola (what ain't fruits and nuts is flakes) - the liberal dorks that run the state and counties LOVE taxation - and if they can up the amount of tax on a tobacco product, they will. After all, who cares about tobacco users, we're the scum of the planet (according to the left coast liberals). Each state views tobacco usage differently, thus taxation changes from area to area. And I can't see any way that snus will ever be the in the same price bracket as the American snuff. Between big tobacco and the big drug companies, they'll do whatever they have to to make it difficult to get an "off shore" product.

In no way do I view snus as a "mine only", underground item. I would truly love it if I could go to the circle-k and get a tin of Ettan. But big tobacco and the big drug companies will lobby hard to make sure that the imported snus is out of most peoples price range, but their products are affordable.

As an example, look at Nicorette Gum. Thus US prices are horrid. But, I can get the same gum (in better flavors) thru Canada up to 30% less.
Why is the US version more expensive?
I guess the packaging. The Canada gum is in simple blister packs, where the US gum is in perforated double sealed cards.
                Why the difference? Government regulations.

I could be wrong about all this - but if I use history as a guide, I don't think I'm too far off the mark in my thoughts.

Well keep in mind that Canadas Medical Benefits make Americans look like F***ing idiots.

America is very strange with how we treat ourselves, our friends/allies, and our opinions seem to change at the tip of a hat on very important issues.

Now, like i stated , I know taxes would very state to state. It would very quite pricey in Cali, New York and a few other states.

I respect your opinions as well, i appologize if it sound as though i was berating your opinions.

And the swedish match site states it can not ship to 4 or 5 states due to local laws. I forget what snus online store is the swedish match one.

But in fine print it says we are unable to ship to the following states in USA and it lists them. Sorry, those states escape me.

First, I just wanted to make sure that feathers didn't get ruffled. This is one of those topics that can get hot fast - and I certainly don't want that.

You couldn't be more correct about the medical stuff here and in Canada. It is truly stupid in a major way.

Even though the Swedish Match site says they won't ship to certain states - they apparently do. As I recall, we have a member that's just or an order from them, and he was in one of those states. In the case of the actual shipment, the state itself can't so a thing - the customs service has to catch it.

Even with Federal laws in place, folks still can get Cuban tobacco (and other items) that slip right thru customs hands on a regular basis. But, there's always the chance of getting caught.....

It's something I'd like to at least try, we don't have the opportunity here in the UK/EU.

                              Hurray Me!!!

I agree though that it is nice that this is a snus forum with no flamers and has great people who post great reviews and opinions.

Not only that, snus manufacturers are actually active here as well like V2 and Gotlands Snus.

I love debates and try to keep them civil. Where i am from usually people are not opne minded.

I live in the south, i have my whole life. I love it, rich heritage and culture. Plus its very laid back.

However, people here are the biggest bible thumpers around. I have no problem with religion at all. But i do have a problem with my sister in laws grandmother telling her not to vote for obama because he is the anti-christ. WTF you know?

Anyways, its sometimes hard to share great debate with some people but on here everyone has an open mind and is quite polite about expressing it.

Oh, and has anyone seen zero around. Seems like its been a while.
