    How to quit?

    Hey,
I hope I am posti g in the right section, I am planning on quitting because I'm starting to get red lesions and bumps when I snus.

I wanted to know if any of you had tried quitting and if yes, how did you feel? What did you experience?

    Thanks!

There is no easy way to quit and it's not fun. I will tell you my experience.

Day 1 - Bad cravings and head/vision feels cloudy.
Day 2- Spent entire day in bed with chills and headache. Hardly remember a thing.
    Day 3 - Felt like day 1.

Now the nicotine is out of your body and you can face the mental battle.
I fought off the mental cravings for 5 months and caved, now I am a daily user again for the past 2 months. In those 5 months I had good days where I didn't crave but the next day it would just come back in full force. There is a reason they compare the addictiveness to heroin. Even if you hate it, your brain will start giving you excuses to go back to it. It sucks.

Cold turkey and stick with it. It's a rough ride and your only option.

I'm just so pissed, I have sores everywhere in my mouth today, I think I snused too much.

I want this to stop and I'm dead scared of cancer. everything i feel makes me feel worse and I'm just getting paranoid

I'd say you are paranoid. If you are a new snuser this is normal and should go away after the tissues in your mouth get used to snus. There are no instances of snus causing cancer. A lot of research has been done to try and disprove this fact. We don't know how many portions you use a day. Consumption should kept to a minimum if possible. I think most people that use snus probably use about 6 portions a day. Everyones experience while trying to quit snus is different. I can stop using snus today without experiencing much, if any, withdrawl synthoms. While other may have a difficult time quitting. All you have to do is try to quit to find out how difficult it will be for you. I was very happy to find out that I could quit at just about any time. But I don't quit because research says it won't harm me and after about 6 years of using snus it shows no signs of harming my body and I enjoy using snus. If and when my doctor tells me I need to stop I'm pretty confident it will be easy for me. Untill then....snuson.

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Try Northerner Purified and see if the gum irritation issues clear up. I can only use regular portion snus on an occasional basis otherwise my gums get irritated to the point of grimacing when I put a regular snus pouch in. I am fine if I use regular snus in between Northerners. I have tried regular snus as the only snus for a month at a time and it just gets worse not better. Others advised me to just hang in there but after a month I just went back to Northerners and supplemented with General Mint and the gum issues went away.

thanks for your answers guys. Actually ive been snusing for two years and I recently changed the flavor I went from regular tobacco taste to mint taste. But my gums and inner lips are just so sore. on the right side I can see a dark red colour on my inner lip and it hurts. I also have these stupid bumps. It is already feeling better than last night but it still scares the hell out of me.

I think ill just stop everything, damn Ill miss snus so badly

Yea some people can kick it like it's nothing, for others like myself, it doesn't go away.
Try and see how you feel.

                Exactly, it's quite hard.
It's my first day now, I woke up around 9 am today an I didnt touch snus yet at 3 pm, I'm happy about it.
I'm starting to notice more and more how hooked i was, you don't really know you are addicted, it makes
it way for a long time before setting in for good. And then, when you see physical damage and the fear
of cancer kicks in. It's time to act and quit. I hope I wont gain any weight while doing this. I think i'll start
some kind of journal. Can I post it somewhere on the forum? I could get some feedback from you
                and share my experience.

My hands are shaking already, damn and I can't concentrate on studying.
                I need more chewing gum.

                omg, this sucks

Sounds like its the mint flavouring or oils that are causing you the issues. Same happens with me with the US General mint, gives me massive mouth ulcers and my gums feel like they are on fire, the Swedish General mint and all other Swedish minty snus doesn't do anything to me, it must be something in the US General that doesn't agree with me. You could be allergic to something in it, the sweetener or the mint flavouring they use.

I would have this checked out by an oral surgeon? Not a dentist. It won't cost you a lot either.

I have had a few patches of whatever (benign) removed from inside a cheek by one of these guys but you sweat it when they send out the biopsy for a test.

Or you can not have it checked out and sweat it without ever knowing.

                        I gotta sleep at night.

Thanks! I can totally relate, I had no problems with the General normal flavored but the minty one is just horrible for my gums, they feel like rubber and the skin of my inner lips are now red. I'm gonna go see a dentist soon, im just freaking out lol.

I only have the red patch now, I think it's only irritation, the stupid bumps are gone. I cannot go see an oral surgeon like this, I need to be referred (it's different in Canada)
I'll call my dentist today to set up a appointment and ask him what to do.

                              First day summed up!:

I am happy I stopped. I hope everything will get back to normal soon.
For now I don't really see any physical withdrawal symptoms. I it will be the same tomorrow.
I'll call my dentist tomorrow and set up an appointment, I'll tell you what he tells me. He is young, so I hope he won't be close
minded about snus. (sorry for my bad english)

                              Have a good night everybody!
