    Issue with Islay Order...

I just received an order today of some Islay from Northerner. Opened the 1st can of Islay exp date 01/30/2015 and some of the pouches have mold on them. I have never received a can of portion snus that had mold. Has anyone else had this issue with Isaly or any other snus?

Same date on mine. No problems. I've had some other brands months after their Best By date and never seen mold! I agree, let them know.

Well, looks like mold and I never saw it on other portions in past. It looked kinda bluish like mold on bread/cheese. I threw out the moldy looking portions (about 5) and kept the rest. I'm not worried to use the other pouches that looked normal and actually have one in now. Kinda treating it like a batch of strawberries that have a few that have gone bad not going to waste the rest.

My home-made (fermented) snus has gone mouldy on me before ... and I have been sent home-made snus from Sweden before which has gone mouldy in the post ... my advice would be not to consume it at all - although it will probably be fine to use. I wouldn't risk it.

Does it smell mouldy? That would be conclusive ... I reckon you should get in touch with the supplier and let them know.

Perhaps it was a salt/moisture issue just never had a regular portion have bluish spots like that. Although I threw out the 5 worst looking pouches, the remaining pouches really perked up after putting in the fridge for about 2 hours.

Do you still have the discarded portions? If so, try this. Put a drop of water on the bluish spots. If the spots disappear you will know that the spots are salt and the water dissolved the salt. Mold won't dissolve.

It's probably just a more matured can. The French would pay top dollar for that.

I used a drop of bleach and they dissolved just like you said they might. Just kidding, you made a good point. I should have tried that but I ain't digging for those pouches, they are at bottom of the garbage behind the house and it is coldddd. I'll dig for $50.00 but not 5 pouches/$1.25 worth of snus.

The black spots look like bits of tobacco that got caught in the end of the pouch when it was sealed, my last can had them (batch #2) and I have seen it countless times with other snuses. However, I would get in contact with Northerner and let them know, send them the pictures, hopefully Conny and GN will see this and clarify everything.
