On my first portion of Elixyr Power Energy.

First impressions on opening the can was that the can felt a bit cheap and then I got an overwhelming smell of disinfectant which reminded me of being in a hospital. Then I grabbed a portion, it seems very pale compared to say a General portion, but it doesn't feel of too bad quality.

Now comes the taste test, it tastes a bit like root beer and and very strongly of hospital, it has a bit of an artificial sweetness and slight bitterness. Not the most pleasant tasting thing in the world.

However the caffeine and nicotine hits are brilliant; I've been up all night with an upset stomach had 3 energy drinks this morning all of which have had a negligible effect, but this has really woken me up, and quite quickly too. (I'm guessing this is because of the caffeine going directly into the bloodstream)

Having a couple of these when I wake up in the morning will make it easier to function and might even take away the cigarette cravings I get in the mornings.

In short, what sagedil has been saying all along. :P

I received a can of the power energy in my buysnus order.

Now, I do quite often purchase energy drinks, also drink a guarana soda.

That being said, my taste for this sort of thing is there.

      This was info at snusworldwide:

Description: Pouch snus which apart from tobacco also contains caffeine and taurin, which are also the ingredients in Red Bull. It is flavored with guarana, lemon and a little sugar, which together give a very distinctive smell and flavor. Launched in 2008.

      Package and content:
      Snus form: Pouch snus
Snus content per can: 22,6 grams
Number of pouches per can: ca 24
Total weight for 10 cans: 390 grams

      Analytical data:
      Water: ca 52 %
      Nicotine: ca 8 mg/portion
      Salt: ca 5 %

      Review:
      Smell - doesn't smell bad

Taste - a little sweet at the beginning, takes a little bit to get going but in about 20 - 25 minutes, bam, it hits you all flavors let loose, that was a shock. After that it tends to mellow out with a bit of a herbal taste maybe, not sure, not bad, but tolerable.

Duration - it lasted over 2 hrs.

Final thoughts - I think it is definitely in category by itself. It presents itself as an energy portion and that is what it is. If your looking for an energy drink type snus, this is it. If your looking for a traditional flavored snus, This is not it.

Both buysnus.com and Northerner are discounting this 25-30%

I purchased a roll and will join the few who use this category of snus.
      Phil

I'm slowly gathering my forces. But soon, soon the battle against Xobeloot's Blue Phantom gang will begin. Of course, we will all be hopped up on Elyxr Energy portions, so it won't even be close.

Bwahahaha, we are gonna take over the snus world!!

I think Sagedil and I should make bumper stickers ot t-shirts proclaiming our enjoyment of this oft-despised snus! lol. I agree though, it has a WEIRD, sharp taste and smell. Windex? I like the wake-up factor for first of the morn' snus. It's the only caffeinated portion I'm aware of and as an Energy Drink addict, that's good enough for me. It's portion snus that can snap me out of "hibernation sickness" in the am. I'd probably use it if it tasted like parmesan cheese...well, no, I take that back, cheese-snus would probably make me gag.

I have been drinking coffee since I was 16. Berkeley had something like 20 cafe's. I was one of the first of the energy drink kick, as soon as Red Bull came out. Hell, I have used caffeinated soap even.

But NEVER have I found something that so effectively gets me going in the morning. And because of sleep issues, I can be going 5 and 6 days in a row with less than 5.5 hours sleep each night. But no matter how tired I am, I am feeling good by my second Elyxr. It really is that amazing.

Now let's talk money. $2.97 per can. $00.12375 per snus. The cheapest cup of coffee I could buy is $1.00. I suppose one Monster, for $2.00 equals 2 Elyxr's, for less than $0.25. I don't have to go to the store and buy it, I don't have to stumble around making it, I don't have to leave early so I have time to stop and get it. I just pad to the fridge, pop the first in, and fall back in bed. 20 - 30 minutes later, I go to the shower, and when I am done and have brushed my teeth, I pop the 2nd one in. By the time I am leaving the house to head to work, I feel great.

Cheap, easy....wow, sounds like a girl I want to meet. 8)

                These things are amazing.

But with the sales that are going on for the Elixyr Power Energy, it really seems like the line will be discontinued soon...

I guess I could always just go back to shot-gunning a MtDew on my way out the door and double-N&J'ing it on the ride in...

Won't happen. Elyxr is a niche product, and I am sure enough people get that niche that they are selling enough. Remember, unless it's Swedish Match, all the remaining snus makers share the remaining 10% of market share. For those guys, it doesn't take much to be a (relatively) good seller.

I know they have a big discount on right now. So maybe they are hurting. OR, maybe they just know that if they can get enough folks trying it, some will get it and become addicted. Reason that cigarette companies give away, or at least used to, cigarettes.

I think I remember reading about F&L getting 6.x of the snus market share. They very pretty pleased with their success :^D
