    Review: General Wintergreen

I got a free can of General Wintergreen White with my latest order, so I decided to give it a try...

Smell: Now it's been a long time since I've smelled Skoal Wintergreen, so regular users might take exception to this, but upon my first whiff I immediately thought of Skoal. It has a powerful, but not overwhelming smell of wintergreen tobacco.

First Impressions: Holy Sweet! Of the dozen or so snuses I've tried, it's the sweetest by far. There is also a powerful wintergreen flavor. It's not subtle, but it's not overwhelming. It has a strong burn. For those who are dying to relive the burn of your first snus, this is the one for you.

Enduring Flavor: Persistant sweet taste. Little salt at all, and little tobacco flavor (even though it is supposed to have a bold tobacco flavor). The burn remains for a good while, I'd say at least 15 minutes.

Final Thoughts: Too sweet for me. I'm a fan of salty snus, and this just doesn't have it. The wintergreen flavor mellows after a while and all I was left with was a sweet taste.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars. This snus will remain an emergency backup can in my fridge, and I'm not likely at all to buy it again...

I like it for its overall value.

First it's quality. No artificial twang

Second is the burn followed by a calm cool sensation. I admit if you've ever puked off skoal the flavor my bring back memories.

Third I love after the intensity of the mint slides away there comes a nice balanced flavor.

Fourth sometimes I need a change of pace and crave a sweeter snus or a unique flavor. With General as the base the mint makes a good addition. Not too sweet. Easy to handle juice, no spitting. Fresh breath compared to other snus.

I will keep these around for after a spicy meal or when I want a change of pace without compromising quality.

where might one purchase General Wintergreen? Sounds like a character from "Clue". I haven't seen this on buysnus.com, maybe I just overlooked it?

Swedish Match sells this in the States through tobacco shops/cigar stores. If you don't have a shop close that sells the wintergreen you can also purchase from them online at http://swedishsnus.com/US/brandlist.asp?AvdID=0

I don't know what wintergreen tastes like, I always assumed it was minty, am I correct? I have some OR wintergreen los so I guess I can find out for myself once I'm done with this pris of Gotlands.

I can't stand general wintergreen. The flavor is decent but it burns like the fire of a thousand suns.

If you are real cravin some wintergreen flavor, pick up some timberwolf or red man wintergreen. Both EXCELLENT, both Swedish Match companies, and it'll give your upper lip a break.

One of my first Swedish snus's was General Wintergreen - I've liked it since I tried it.

To answer my own question... it tastes like that stuff you rinse your mouth out with at the dentist.

It definitely burns more than almost any other, but that's what I like about it. It also seems to last quite a while, which is good since I tend to leave portions in longer than most people. I wish they made it in a los version...

When I hear "wintergreen" I instantly don't feel well due to the thought of skoal and some association with pinesol or some car freshener. ..

I agree with those that like the burn, I thought of my kodiak dipping days as soon as I opened the can, it is also very sweet. Much sweeter than the camel frost in my opinion, but not quite the same sweetness, its not quite as artificial tasting as the camel. I like it pretty well, but I have had 3 portions now break open on the end when I try to fold them, so that is a little frustrating. But good all around.

Funny you should say that, because I have had them do the exact same thing in almost every tin I've purchased; no matter what the exp. date was. It happens all the time when I buy the Offroad wintergreen, too. Maybe it's just a wintergreen thing?? :?

I'm very curious to see what it's like. I've always loved the taste and aroma of American wintergreen snuff, so I guess General Wintergreen will give me the best of both worlds.
