Haven't posted here in a while, but still snusing. So some thoughts...
It's coming up on a year now since I started with snus. Except for one week a couple months in where I smoked a couple cigarettes a day, and a half a cigarette a few months after that (it tasted so foul I couldn't finish it), I have been smoke free.
And I couldn't be happier about that fact. So very relieved to be free of the stress involved with smoking, knowing it was hurting me and knowing I had to quit, the smell, and all that stuff. I can say without exaggeration that snus has improved my life greatly.
So here's the bit for anyone curious about trying it to switch from cigarettes:
Yes, it works. Give it time. You will see eventually that it will not only replace cigarettes, but you'll find it superior. With very little effort. Very little, but some. You do have to want to make the switch.
Don't stress about it.
Try out as many as you can. You'll find something that clicks for you.
The downsides?
Ordering snus from the U.S. is kind of a pain. Every time I order, my bank puts a fraud alert on my card, which I have to clear before I can place the order. (Your bank, of course, may be different.) I only place an order every couple of months, though, so it's not a huge deal.
Teeth get stained from tobacco. Probably not quite as much as from smoking, but still happens. Have to be diligent about whitening. Or just not care, I guess.
Still very occasionally want a smoke, like once a month or so. Only putting this in there for completeness. It's really not a big issue. It comes and goes away in a minute without any stress about it. I know that if I have that cigarette, I'll only hate it. They taste and smell like complete crap now. Or they always did, but now I realize it. That's one of the great things about snus; you can have that smoke if you really want. It won't won't "ruin your quit". More than likely, you'll just see how much better snus is, and wonder why you bothered.
Cant' think of any others, really.
Unlike a lot of folks here, who are continually trying new snus and use a lot of different kinds, I hit upon a couple that I liked fairly soon and have stuck with them. (Granit Los and Thunder Frosted Mini.)
Loose snus took some time to get the hang of, but it was worth it in the end.
Anyway, thanks for this forum and thank you to the helpful members here.
