I have had two envelopes in the past couple of weeks. I always order through BuySnus and have never, ever had any kind of problem with customs. They break my orders up into two or three packages of 5 cans and they come through in as little as a week.
My most recent order, however, was a different story. A roll of Oden's Extra Stark, plus a couple of extra single cans, in three envelopes, posted within a day of one another. First package came through three weeks ago. The second and third have both been caught by Customs, and I have received two letters: one asking for $70 (which I paid, reflexively, like an idiot, because I thought it was for 9 tins and figured that was reasonable), and then a second, for however much (it's at a different address and I haven't been there to check the letter yet). So the $70 was for either 5 or 4 tins (I'm hoping 5 but suspect 4).
I don't know about you guys, but I can't afford $14 of duty/tax/tariffs on a $6 can of snus. Not when I'm getting 10 tins at a time, anyway. Maybe if I could buy it in the shop I would be less angry about a $20 can of snus (since it lasts me about 3x longer than a pack of cigarettes, which is about $20 anyway), but when I'm probably going to have to pay, what, nearly $200 in tax for a roll of snus, all in one hit? The hell with that.
I'm going to try Snusline as I understand they package their stuff a little differently and that it has a higher likelihood of getting through customs. Anybody able to verify that? No Swedish Match, but I could handle moving to Skruf as it's not bad, and of course they still have Oden's which is okay too.
The other thing I was considering is maybe ditching the tobacco altogether (I used snus to quit smoking, and it worked beautifully and instantaneously), but I'll have to wean myself gradually, and I wondered if anybody had any experience with any of the tobacco- and nicotine-free snus brands, like Onico and Qvitt and so forth?
My third option is to just go right back onto RYO cigarettes. I can get American Spirit from Tobaccoblends.com.au for the same price as a pouch of Champion, and it's a superior smoke. But I'd really rather not start smoking again.
Man, this is such a pain in the arse.
What do you chaps and chapettes reckon?
