    Rocker storage

    Hi all. I'm pretty new to snusing, but I'm enjoying it so far! The portion sampler from Notherner.com seemed a good place to start, plus I've bought some Goteborgs Rape No. 2 and some blue Rocker snus from buysnus.com.

    And that's where my question comes in - according to Rocker, their packaging eliminates the need for cold storage.

    Great!

    But it doesn't say whether this is because of the foil seal, or because of the box design. If it's just the foil seal, that would mean Rocker snus would need to be kept refrigerated after opening, right?

    But if it's the box itself, that's excellent - I can take the stuff on holiday next week and not need a fridge.

    So, does anyone know?

    it is because of the seal, not the box.
    A few days after opening, in your pocket, should not make a huge difference. You may keep all your snus in a zip lock bag. Not as good as a fridge, but better than nothing.

      Ah, damn. I suspected it was too good to be true. Ok, well it's only spent a couple of days at room temperature, I'll just stick it in the fridge from now on.

      Cheers for the help.

      Incidentally, if anyone hasn't tried Rocker and is interested, I've found the Rocker liquorice snus to have a very bitter flavour (included when freshly opened). I won't be rushing to order more of it. Maybe others have had better experiences?

        I've tried Rocker black ("lemon") and gold ("coffee"). They are both
        bitter-ish. The black is similar to Ettan, at least to me. The coffee flavor in the gold can is quite artificial and el cheapo - but not too strong,

          According to the ad at Northerner,

          "This new type of snus box from Rocker are sealed with a technique that eliminate all need for cooling. This makes the snus stay fresh for much longer time than most other brands. An unopened snus box will stay very fresh for 6 month without any cooling."

          According to the web site of Rocker Production AB, "By introducing its technique of hermetic sealing of the can, Rocker eliminates the need for cool storage of the snuff." "The snuff products can be stored at room temperature without moisture loss or quality deterioration for considerably longer times than other known products can withstand in cold store. Of course, the Rocker products can also be stored at low temperature."

          For more info in regards to this, the Rocker Production AB web page (for English) is at:

          http://www.snus.nu/english.html

          I order from Northerner, and after they mail it out to me, it takes a week to get to me (I'm in the U.S., Virginia), so since the Snus goes about a week without refrigeration (during the delivery phase), I go ahead and store it in the Freezer (including the 2 Rocker Brands I just recently ordered to try out, eventually. *g*) - Even the Dry ones like CatchDry.

            Yeah, I read that, as well as the Rocker webstie, but still found myself unsure - yes it says unopened box, but it also says it eliminates all need for cooling.

            And a hermetic seal is basically simply an airtight one, which a plastic box such as Rocker use could be capable of.

            Still, at least the seal provides some help, and will make the snus a little bit more practical to take on holiday, or wherever a fridge may not be available for a while.

            Cheers for the responses .

              You should definitely still keep the opened snus in the fridge unless you go through the can in a day or two. The hermetic seal means that the snus is not only airtight but also packaged in an atmosphere without oxygen to prevent fermenting and spoiling of the snus. As soon as you open it, though, it will be in contact with oxygen even if you close the tin - keeping it cool is still worthwhile :idea:

                I started Snus a Month ago, and was quite curious about what I was to do in re of storage. I have read that Snus generally should not be in room tempertures for more than 2 weeks. So, I did put my first order in the refrigerator as I tested various Snus brands/flavors;

                All that was good for the first couple of weeks, but three of the four cans I had remainng seemed to give off a sour taste to me, so I put them in the freezer (and the others as well, since some of them had already been 'unsealed/opened') in the hopes of 'salvaging' them (assuming that these brands don't originally give off a sourness even when they are fresh);

                That did seem to help a couple of them (so far). But I will gradually order more of the three brands to try them fresh to see how they are.

                So now, to be on the safe side, I just put my Snus into the freezer after I get it in the mail and check the contents over. In fact, even after unsealing a can, I just take a few portions out for the day's use - I am thinking this is a good idea since it takes a week for my orders from Sweden to get to me, and they are not being refrigerated during transit.

                Of Cource, I ordered a Roll of Snus cans from Swedish Match, which the 31.00 dollars included UPS Shipment, which only took a couple of days. That's very nice (well, when you want to buy one or more of the Swedish Match brands).

                    Yea... I ordered a roll Tuesday Evening (10/10/2006) and got it this morning (10/13/2006) - UPS Shipped too - it's always been UPS for where I live, so it stays pretty fresh. A Lot cheaper than UPS Fees from Northerning (which is about $20.00 for a couple of rolls I think).

                    Yea, that is the usual downside - plus, someone has to be at least a certain age (I think it is 18, but the UPS paper sez 21). The person ordering does not have to be the one to sign for it, just someone at home old enough.

                    Cheers!

                        Just a heads up...

                        i placed my second order from Northerner on 10/5 and it was delivered on 10/11 to Seattle, WA.

                        8 different cans = $27 with shipping

                        interestingly a 9th can adds another $3+ for shipping

                        derek
