    a snuser smoking story

Well I can now say I am officially a non(ex) smoker. I have been snusing off and on for a few years, and have just recently tried to quit smoking with snus. I have not had a cigarette in a few months. (today is thanksgiving). I was going to be around family and friends for our turkey dinner, and decided to pick up a pack of smokes, just to be social, and not to be left alone when everybody is taking their smoke breaks. Well I went out for the first smoke break, lit up, took two drags, and threw it out. I actually don't like to smoke. It was way too harsh, made me feel ill, and was just plain nasty. I hated the flavor, and the smell was nasty. What a change that happens in just a few months. Your body changes fast and recovers from not smoking.

Are there any ex smokers here who have had a simular experience, where they went to have a cigarette after quiting, and just didn't enjoy it any more? (as a 15 year, pack a day smoker, I found this weird and awesome.)

although if you smoked another one after it wouldn't taste so bad ; and the more you smoked it would be normal again . Your brain blocks out the shitty nasty
aspect of smoking because it delivers nicotine to you so efficiently, it's just normal after a while

I dont crave them. I didn't want to actually smoke. I just didn't want to be inside alone.

For about the first 3 months or so I'd get a craving for a smoke at work. Decided to grab one off my bud and that was the last time I smoked. Like ya said just wasn't enjoyable

Same here. Tried a smoke last year anticipating an 'ahhh', and only got a 'yuck!' Threw it out after a couple of puffs.

Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. They do pretty much taste nasty most of the time now. I don't have to have them anymore, at least. Not so with snus.

Hate the smell of cigarettes these days. Cigars on the other hand,I love the smell of.
Snus has freed me 100% from the urge to light up,for almost 4 years.
                      Different animal completely.

Varies but I will bond with fellow smokers in a social situation (think bar, parties, etc...)...I enjoy it but not more than snus, so there is not a fell off the wagon effect. Best of both worlds snus as daily/regualr option and enjoy a good smoke when the situation dictates with no worries of falling back into smoking.

Now I will always love a great cigar. Even a fine pipe. I do notice that when I smoke one (pipe/cigar), my pallet is out of wack for a few hours and my snus tastes like ass.

I also have experienced the same thing. I don't even want to smell a burning cigarette, let alone take a puff off of one. The one that gets me now is how I used to walk past people who were smoking outside, and the smell made me crave a cigarette. Now it makes me gag, and I usually turn around and say "That shit is nasty bro" or something like that and think "Damn I used to be that guy" and feel sorry for them.

The smell of a cigar or pipe burning doesn't make me gag...it's quite nice, but the taste is the same, if not worse, than a cigarette. At work we do a lot of cigar testing, prototypes of new products and QC of new products just to make sure the process is right, stuff like that. I love the smell of them, but I can't and won't light one up. If I want to do any sensory on it, it's a cold drag or just olfactory. I leave the smoking to the sensory panel guys.

Former smokers are often the biggest anti's...personally, I hate the smell of cigarette smoke in rooms, clothes, hair, etc... nasty, the smell is so damn pervasive.
