    Nicotine Fog

Before I continue I want to say I'm not trying to dissuade anyone from using snus but I'm having an issue with something related to using snus. Lately I have been having some sort of brain fog for lack of a better term. It usually happens about 1-2 hours after removing snus from my mouth. It's actually a little more intense than when I used to smoked cigarettes. When I did that and wasn't able to smoke for an extended period of time I would just feel agitated and be less focused. Currently if I go without snus for too long I can hardly focus on reading or thinking tasks.

I recently switched from portion to loose snus if that matters. I have been using general loose snus. Is it just not strong enough snus for me? Am I just over using snus? Looking for experiences from anyone who has ever experienced intense brain fog beyond just an agitated craving for nicotine...

I get that way when I overdue it on sterks. Though if I go the opposite way and say go a day or so without snus I'll get a similar effect, almost feel floaty.

It's just because your body gets use to a certain amount of nicotine, too little and you'll get withdrawal symptoms too much and you'll get a nicotine buzz going.

someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty darn certain that loose delivers the vitamin N a lot more effectively than portions, so you might be getting more nicotine then normal since switching to loose.

    thats my 2 nickels

I think one issue that you are noticing is the different way cigarettes and snus deliver nicotine.

Cigarettes (and nasal snuff for that matter) tend to deliver nicotine in bursts. Smoke a cigarette or take a pinch of snuff and you get a burst of nicotine.

Snus and dip deliver nicotine in more of a steady stream.

The result is with cigarettes you get a peak and valley effect with snus you get a plateau. To put this another way........ with cigarettes you get a ration that will last you for x amount of time. With snus you maintain a level or balance.

As such the way your body processes the craving reflects the manner in which it is accustom to that craving being satisfied.......if you smoke you are agitated and need the next burst........if you use snus your levels have dropped and you are off kilter until they are normalized.

It sounds to me like you are noticing the difference between the two manners of delivery and the two manifestations of the cravings

By the way.....you might want to give nasal snuff a try. A lot of x-smokers really like it for the very reason that it delivers nicotine in a way they are accustomed to

I really appreciate both your answers. Anyway I think the part where you mentioned how loose snus delivers the nicotine in a certain efficient way really makes sense for my situation. With the portion version of snus I think(not 100% sure) I got a slower tapered delivery whereas with the loose snus I get it faster and I might as well take out the snus or swallow it after a bit. I think the problem was I thought the snus was still working (for lack of a better term) when it was already past the time where there was any nicotine delivery going on. I think I'm going to switch to slightly stronger snus for awhile and see what happens. It's actually a lot less frustrating to live going cigarette to cigarette with occasional frustrating moments where you can't or decide not to smoke. Anyway I read the part about nasal snuff and I've tried it before briefly... I don't remember being a big fan of it but I don't mind giving it another shot.

Nasal snuff is good stuff once you give it a fair shake, I don't really use it in the winter because I work outside and constantly have either a running or plugged nose, but summer time it's very enjoyable.

Just the reason I have not tried any other form of nicotine delivery other than snus.....now that I have broken the quick nick hit need (some time ago), I don't want to mess with a good thing even though nasal, vaping, etc look very interesting to me. The slow and steady nic hit of snus along with the great flavors does it for me.....

Burnsey, IMO. nasal snuff is a dirty, nasty and addicting habit. That being said, you MUST try it! It's not the same as cigarettes... both in addictiveness and nic hit. My experience with it has been both fun and satisfying. I don't get the "must have" craving for it like cigarettes product... but the right brand will give you one hell of a buzz! It took me awhile to get use to nasal snuff; however, when I am really under stress, it works wonders for me. I think of it as the cocaine of tobacco. No I'm not a daily user; but rather, maybe once or twice every few months. Additionally, keep in mind there is a learning curve to using it. For beginners, I recommend the German Poschl's products. American and British snuff can be killers to first timers. Give this one a try.

If you want something milder than this, I recommend
                  De Kralingse Gingerbread 12.5g

Are you aware that they keep two boxes of nasal snuff up by the speakers seat on the senate floor? Nasal snuff has been around a very long time.

You should give the Gingerbread a try... it's amazing stuff.

Why do they keep it on the floor? Doesn't it get kicked around?
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

They probably get it for free, and do lines of it off the desk with rolled-up $100 bills.
