Smoker switching to snuser (first time poster)

Roughly 3 or 4 months ago I started dabbling in the heavenly snus. Now I am grown a strong liking to it and have cut my cigarette intake by more than half. I noticed last night while getting my booze on at the local watering hole while only smoking cigarettes that my nicotine need was no where close to being fulfilled.

I noticed that there is a good amount of chatter on this forum about people quitting cigarettes and switching to snus. Have you guys and gals noticed if snus reduces your urge to smoke or that smoking just doesn't cut the mustard any more with its weak weak nic content.

    Welcome.

The thing about cigarettes is that they provide a fairly rapid nicotine hit, which then goes away quickly as well. What's different about snus is that, in general, although you receive the same amount of nicotine into your system, it takes place more gradually and over a more extended amount of time. You have to be a little patient with it.

That said, my own experience as an ex-smoker is that the average dose of snus is right on the border of being a satisfying nic hit compared to cigarettes. Therefore I'm a fan of the stronger varieties. A large loose pinch of Skruf Stark can easily give me too much nicotine, for instance. Also, sometimes I require a very fast dose and will smoke a cigarette to solve the problem. Different people have different nicotine needs, and it sounds like yours is high.

Take a long road trip with no cigarettes and a few cans of some strong snus and your affliction will be cured. I've also found wetting a portion of Skruf Stark and placing it a little further back in the cheek gives you your hit incredibly fast. Can't think of a way to do this with loose without making a mess.

Thank you for the welcome i am excited to be here among avid snusers!

Yeah i would say i have a high nicotine need, i like everything i use in as strong as possible from my coffee to my booze to my nicotine. The stronger the better.

When i first started with the starks and sterks i tried the Nick and Johnny stark and the first couple times i tried it it almost took me out, but now i have no problem with it.

I have tried a good amount so far. For instance today i have been going back and forth between general sterk and lucky strike mini whites. I have a can of general los and phantom blue los that have been dabbling with. I got one of those ice tools yesterday, but i am not exactly sure how to operate it, but i think that i am getting the hang of it.

How is skruf in general i have seen it all over the place but have never tried it.

Snus delivers nic slow and steady over a longer period of time compared to the short quick rush of smoking. I quickly took to Snus because it feels more thorough and relaxing. You're just starting to prefer that type of delivery over that "quickie" jolt cigarettes give. I don't think it's so much the 'weak' nic content as I can smoke a few cigs in the time it takes to Snus and probably get even more nicotine. ymmv

I have a hard time with stopping the smoking still though i just enjoy the act if inhaling smoke, that is why i have a hard time with cigars as well they are very enjoyable and tasty but i often have to put the cigar down for a second to take a smoke break, sounds bad mostly because it is ha ha .

Thanks for the tip jamesstew i am trying that right now with the General Sterk. Btw i love getting my nicotine while at my desk!

Oh so then the high nicotine content in a sterk isn't actually that scary since it is slower a slower release. How long should i usually keep it in to get the full nicotine release?

Until you feel the need for a new one, the flavor runs out, or if you're going to eat.

                  Welcome, King5nu53r!

Do I understand that right, that cigarettes don't work anymore for you, nicotine-wise. Well, in this case just kick them and be merry.

One of the reasons why I managed to switch very fast from cigarettes to snus was that some of my first pinches and portions gave me really heavy nicotine-kicks, which I wasn't able to get any longer from cigarettes. That was most likely due to my already tarred lungs and my high tolerance for nicotine. So, it's largely a personal thing and it also depends on the brand of cigarettes or snus, that you're using.

For some scientific data on the topic, you could have a look at the figure on page 122 of the study by the Royal College of Physicians in London: http://www.rcplondon.ac.uk/pubs/cont...239b09c5db.pdf
Gothiatek also has covered the topic: http://www.gothiatek.com/templates/s...spx?page_id=73
According to the studies, there's no big difference in nicotine-uptake from cigarettes compared to snus/snuff.

But I still think, that the whole topic is very personal. I very much prefer the way snus works, nicotine-wise. It is very strong and still somehow smooth, not like a cigarrette that can sometimes make you stagger like a drunkard for a few seconds, but leaves you craving more nicotine just a few seconds later. Snus is far more satisfying than cigarettes for me.

BTW, Skruf Stark is brilliant, both portions and lös. It's one of the brands that made me kick the cigarettes within a few days, after I got my first snus-shipment back in 2006.

                  Cheers!

Nope King, not scary at all and pretty tasty too. I'll keep a portion in until it loses flavor or, as Jamestew says; till I wanna eat. Lös lasts quite a bit longer and I'll keep a pris in for up to 2 hours. Snus has made smoking less desirable for me and oftentimes I simply prefer a pris. I don't even want to quit smoking but Snus is making it difficult to smoke at all sometimes!

2 hours!! Wow i usually keep it in for like 45 minutes, longer does make sense though.

Wow this is great guys! I feel really welcome here.

And i am definitely going to get myself some skruf loose one next time i have a bit of cash. I have enjoyed the loose it fits more comfortably the portions tend to rub my gums a little hard sometimes.

Another reason that i am switching is my city just instated a smoking ban on bars, actually today is the first day. I'm sure some of the smokers have come across this as well, i personally don't think it is a good idea, but what does my word count as? Not much at all. Either way i will be enjoying my nicotine while everyone else will have to huddle outside in the cold and smoke

                      LONG LIVE SNUS :!:

For me the main thing is the flavor of snus. I really don't like the after taste of cigs. The after taste of most snus is actually enjoyable. Notice I said most. A few brands have horrid leftovers.
