    Triumph

Thanks to a generous forum member, I've been able to try Triumph original and mint. They aren't bad, I have a preference for the mint, but the original's also usable. They're both sweet a la Camel snus, but not quite as much aspertame, and with a more traditional snus pouch shape. I rather like the tin and it's graphics. It has a retro kind of look, maybe early 60s, and the snus is arranged in an appealing way, with the circular star pattern of General Onyx.

I'm left wondering who these will appeal to. They're too candy like for dip users, and it's just dip to smokers LoL. With the severe restrictions on tobacco advertising, I don't know how they'll get smokers to switch. Also, I have to question the choice of sweetness that the companies seem to think Americans want. Judging by these forums, I think that most prefer the traditional snus styles, and if given a chance, I think the general American population would prefer the traditional style also.

I was talking with my buddy from work today, and we both agreed that snus would have a better chance over here if they made traditional snus, but used upscale packaging as in PM 1847, Diplomat, and Metropol. Give snus a sophisticated appeal, and play up it's European origins. I think that would sell better in the long run than Americanizing snus, and going for Americans love of sugar.

All in all, Triumph isn't bad, but I find it one dimensional when compared to traditional Swedish snus. I'd be interested in seeing how well PM 1847 did on the American market as compared to Triumph and Camel.

The original is no sweeter than american chew (Redman/Beechnut).

Dunno how you can even compare it to Camel. There is zero aspartame taste in it. Sweet, yes... Artificially sweet? Not in the least

The stuff is made by Swedish Match for the American market.

As far as it being nothing more than Dip to the average smoker, you are right on.

The stores around here sell the crap out of the mint and tend to give the orogonal away for free just to get rid of it. I like the Original after a meal or before bed, but I could never use the stuff as a regular.

I am addicted to Triumph, but no way as a regular snus. This is my desert snus, my last snus of the day kinda thing. It is the snus I pop in as I am trying to force my way to get towards bed, and it is almost a signal to me now to start wrapping my sh** up.

But I so much look forward to it every day, it really is a tasty treat for me.

But certainly not something I could have all the time.

So my snus routine is quite settled. Day begins with two Elyxr's (possibly switching that with Northerner's new creation, we shall see soon), then through the day, switch back and forth between a traditional snus and a flavored snus, and then my night cap of triumph.

Sage is happy in his snus routine.

American chew is intensely sweet with sugar and saccharin. I'm guessing the sweetness in Triumph is aspertame since that's what SM uses in their other candy snus'. I haven't been able to find an ingredient list for Triumph though :^/

I've just never gotten that stank aftertaste from Triumph that I get from other food/drinks with aspartame.

Though i'd guess if that is the sweetner used, the amount is far lowewr than that in food/drink thus potentially removing the aftertaste.

Ahh.........I have a certain time for the triumph mint also. I wake up, take some meds, toss in a offroad coffe/vanilla, have my coffee and snus that for an hour. Then its time for more meds [that won't interact with the previous meds] THEN I toss in a triumph mint. After that its the coffe/vanilla for the rest of the day. I only use one or two mint daily but, like Sagedil, I look forward to it. I think its too flavorfull to use all the time.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

My daughter's mother gave me a couple of coupons for Camel snus. After I get somewhere that sells it, I'll be able to refresh my memory on what it tastes like. It's been quite awhile since I've had Camel. I remember it as being sweeter than Triumph, but still close...Eg there's less difference between Camel and Triumph, than there is between Triumph and lets say...Vertigo(one of the sweeter Swedish snus')

Thats my beef with triumph, its too sweet.

I agree with you that its too candyish for American Dip users and most cig smokers I know here arent interested in it.

I guess there is an underground market for it. People using it because its new but im wondering if Triumph can make it.

I would really like to see the sales figures thus far because most gas stations I go to still are giving them away with a purchase of cigs.

Wonder if this is going to lead to a greater risk factor for swedish match than reward.

The only risk to SM is potential profit gains. Lorriard (sp?) has to be paying to have the product made.

If the product moves, SM gets more $$ to make more. If it doesnt sell, no loss, no gain.

To me, Camel is as different than triumph as it is different to any Swedish stuff. And I like Camel occasionally. I have a spice open in my fridge. Will probably last me 5 months, but occasionally....

No, the Triumph is different in a different way. How many different times can I say different in this post??

I like Triumph just for what it is, a very tasty snus that I love and look forward every night. But I bet some will use it all the time, just as there are some that use Camel all the time

I think the cigarette companies are taking the long view on snus. It won't catch on overnight, but it will slowly grow. especially as cigarette laws continue to become more restrictive

I traded with another member who wanted both kinds of Triumph.

Every store around me has completely run out of the mint.

They said it didn't move most of the summer, and now they can't keep it in stock. I could only get six original too. Someone other than me is buying it.

Looks good if it's selling that much. Hopefully this means we see it everywhere soon.

I talked to a gas station clerk that I know and he said that sales of regular priced Triumph (now about $4.00) are practically zero. They should lower the price back to the promotional level ($1.49 per can) and introduce other flavors, such as peach, apple, and wintergreen. Most of the people that I know who use Triumph are dippers. I don't know a single smoker that uses Triumph.

How do the dippers like it? I would think Triumph's too light and sweet. The dippers I know mostly use the old American brands...Skoal Wintergreen, Copenahgen.

All the dippers use snus when they are at work or in a situation where it is rude to spit out brown tobacco juice (weddings, family reunions, interviews, dates etc...). I never liked dip because it burned my throat and irritated my gums. However, the greatest advantage to snus is that I don't have to look like a redneck!
