    Hello

Hello, I'm a Swede who stumbled upon this board, dont really know what I was looking for. Anyway I'm a long time snus-user, I've been using General Portion for around 20 years.
Like most Swedes I was introduced to snus as a teenager by older kids. Like most people exposed to nicotine for the first I got the rush, the dizziness follow by extreme nausea and vomiting. The standard way of being introduced to snus in Sweden, almost a tradition (yes, I did the same thing with unkowing younger kids later, I admit it ops: )

I never been a fan of strongly tasting snus with fruit or peppermint flavour and all that. It is kind of funny however, how you get stuck to a brand like that, I mean the same brand of snus for 20 years! But reading from this nice forum I decided I would try something else for once so I went out and bought myself a Skruf stark portion (Living in snusland the trip took almost 5 minutes  ).

So now here I am enjoying a Skruf and it tastes really good. I think I'll try more sorts. So thank you for introducing a more varied snus-experience to me.

    Welcome to the forum, Frump!

I think you're not different from the typical smoker anywhere in the world, who mainly stays loyal to one brand of cigarettes. I don't know, why people from outside of Scandinavia often try 20 brands of snus or more, but it's simply a fact and I'm one of these. Most of the brands are really worth a try, though I didn't like all.

Funny thing indeed, I never imagined that I ever could wish a long-time-snuser from Sweden good luck with his new snus-experiences, but yeah, good luck!

    Cheers!

      Frump -

Have you been a portion user your whole life? Also, it's funny you say you stuck with General portion for 20 years, around here, people brag about how many different cans they have open at once! I guess for us Americans, this is still a pretty new thing, only a few years old. We're still enamored with the amount of variety out there.

For example, if you're a dipper, there aren't a whole bunch of choices in "premium brands"; you've pretty much got Skoal, Copenhagen and Grizzly (although grizzly is a "value priced" brand with a HUGE cult following). There are several cheap dips out there, but I've found, if you're paying 99 cents for a can of dip, there's probably a reason.

It's exciting to have a really experienced snuser on the forum though, it raises a lot of questions for me. For example, how many portions do you use a day? And have you found that over time you have started using more portions? I could go on and on, but overall, welcome to the forum; we look forward to hearing from you!

        Thanks.
I think many of you have tried far more different brands of snus than I ever have. When I started snusing Swedish Match was about the only company making snus so their old brands was all that was available: General, Ettan, Grov, Röda Lacket, Tre Ankare, Rallarsnus. Probably some more I cant remember.
There werent any fruit or mint flavoured snus, that came in the 90:ies when all those small companies started. I think that the EU debacle, with them outlawing snus really got many people in Sweden to switch from cigarettes to snus out of spite and many new companies started. They had to differentiate theirselves I think and started putting different flavours in the snus.

Anyway the first snus I tried (and got really nauseous from) was Röda Lacket, which I've hated ever since. Somehow I got stuck with General Portion, I tried the white version (or is it silver) and the larger bags version but didnt like them at all. Portion because it's just easier to handle and you dont have to wash your hands after making a "prilla".

I use about one can a day, usually a double each time, one bag on the left, one on the right. And I have fallen asleep while snusing and awoken with the classic brown saliva stains on my pillow  Not as bad as people falling asleep with lös-snus though!

Wow, a can a day...I use maybe a can every 8 or 9 days, though it's hard to tell, because I usually have 2 cans open; one for at work (which is usually Roda Lacket or General, sometimes something new I'd like to try) and a night time snus (usually Probe, sometimes something like Offroad Cran). I usually rotate both cans out in 2 weeks, maybe a couple days more.

You must not leave your portions in long; what, 20 or 30 minutes? And I think you must have a portion in most of the day to use that much. I'm trying to cut down on open cans and try to use up a can every 4 or 5 days. I find that my stuff is getting dangerously close to the use by date on the can toward the end of my order.

Also, I got sick of dirty hands, but really do prefer the los; I wear a white uniform at work, and can't have brown spots/streaks on my pants. I solved that problem by buying an icetool though, I love it! Anyway, so cool to hear about how things used to be "back in the day"...

Well not 1 can a day when I think of it. 1 "stock" - that would be a "log" in English i.e. one of those rolls of 10 cans lasts 14 days. I usually have them in until they start to give off too much fluid and doesnt taste much, usually 45 minutes-1 hour or so.

I came to think of 1 more reason why I use portion and not lössnus, you get a less protruding bulge of your upper lip with portion (of course you could make smaller prillor but meh..)

Hmmm this Skruf wasnt bad at all, still General is better imo. I'll try some other new stuff during the week.

              And thank you mister Parrot
