Not totally a newbie, but still looking for suggestions...

I first got into Snus at the beginning of the summer with the American ones. I tried the Tourney Snus and I hated it, and I thought that I'd never get into it. However, I thought I'd give it another shot, this time with Triumph mint flavor, and I ended up loving it. I used Triumph for a couple of months.

Just recently, I decided to try the Swedish Snus, and I ordered two cans off of buysnus. I just opened a Jakobsons Ice-Fruit portion, and I must say, I really do enjoy this one. I also ordered a Gotesburg Rape White Portion(I think that's how it's spelled) but it's unopened right now, I'm gonna wait until I finish out the first can.

I was looking for some suggestions for some other cans to try. I am not planning on ordering any rolls right now. Also, I'd be more interested in the flavored ones, but I'm not totally disregarding the pure tobacco Snus.

Also, quick question. What's the difference between the different portion colors. I know of both original and white, and I've also seen a black portion...?

The "Black" portion is General Onyx, One of my favorite portion snus. As far as I know, they are the only ones to use a black material. It's a strong snus (nicotine wise) and, to me, a salt and lemon taste with the tobacco flavor in the background. Again, that's my opinion.

As other members will tell you, snus is unique because everyone tastes something different in each. I taste lemon and salt while another will taste tobacco and peppery notes. As you go, you'll form opinions as well and we look forward to your comments.

My suggestions on flavors are:

Göteborgs Rape #2. Has a Lingonberry flavor. (It's hard to explain unless you have had them.) A couple of members like this one as well.

Skruf Cranberry portion. Cranberry taste

Offroad Cranberry Portion and lös.

Phantom Blue lös. and Lös ONLY. The portions aren't verry good IMO.

Just remember, have fun and taste as many as you can! Order one of the tasting boxes from Northerner.com or BuySnus.com. they have a greate vareity and a great price. I've been snussing for about 2 months and placed my first roll order last Friday.

Welcome fire! Tastes vary so much that it's difficult to recommend a snus to someone... I only use portions right now, and some of my favorites are Roda Lacket, General, Nick & Johnny, Catch Licorice, Goat Rape #2, and the list goes on... Browse the forums and you'll find a wealth of information and reviews on different brands...

I would definitely go through at least two cans of any one flavor before buying a roll... Like myself and many others here you'll find that your tastes can change in a matter of weeks or even days... Most here also have a few different cans open at the same time, so go ahead and dig into that other can. Keep them in the fridge at home and they will be fine...

At least buy a can or two of non flavored snus. You might eb suprised at how much you like them. A few suggestions, General Oynx, the new Pall Mall, Mocca + are really yummy, and for that extra kick of nicotine, Nick & Johnny.

Over the last 20 months, I have really come to prefer the non flavored snus. Most of the favored ones aren't as good for me anymore, and I am gaining more and more non flavored favorites all the time.

As for flavored, you gotta try LD Black!!!

If you're looking for a kick, I'd put Onyx, Nick&J West or General Sterk on the list

I agree with the Rape #2 idea - great taste (I got a roll of it), if you like licorice taste you might want to try Metropol. And if you like a wintergreen, then there's General Wintergreen or Offroad American Wintergreen.

For a nice mellow taste you might think of Ettan, General or 1847

And FWIW, my morning snus is Lucky Strike - it goes good with coffee.

I am surprised that more flavored snus has not been chosen as options for you. I agree that Skruf Cran portion, Phantom Blue Los, Offroad Cran los, and Got Rape #2 are good flavored choices, yet there are some more for those that have a pallet that likes sweeter, non-tobacco flavors. To add to the list: Nick and Johnny East portion, Probe Los, and the improved American Wintergreen Longcut Offroad.

I find that the flavors for me are an on-again, off-again thing. I like Icefruit, but the salt takes something away from it in my opinion.

If you haven't already, try General, which is the top-selling brand. There are also a lot of General-ish brands--Jakobsson's Original, PM 1847, Gustavus, Gotlandssnus Yellow, etc. For myself, the lemony citrusy bergamotty thing only goes so far and is perhaps a bit overdone, but I get a hankering for it every now and then.

And you certainly should try acouple of the more straight brands. Grov and Ettan are the two best examples there. Also definitely try Lucky Strike--definitely a one-trick pony, but that's not always a bad thing.

I'm too new to snus to recommend anything but can say that it has been an enjoyable experience. Do what i'm doing, order about 10 different flavors of snus at a time and find out which "style / flavor" you like. I am finding out that most people (including myself) like more than one and buy more than one brand at a time. Its kinda wierd because I came into this thinking "I'll find a brand I like and stick to it". It isn't happening like that. I like too many of them. LOL :lol: It's freakish how these flavors grow on you. I MEAN FREAKISH!

Funny you should mention it, but I like to stick to two brands per order. Right now I'm on General and RL. I started out with tons of cans open, but it's tough to juggle all those cans and make sure you don't dry one out because you're really diggin' another for the time being.

You can't go past the good old fashioned General, Ettan or Göteborgs rapé (portion or lös). Really traditional swedish snus. Traditional flavour. If you want to try something with a little more 'flavoured' röda lacket is a great choice.

Well, I have now tried both cans I had on me.

The Ice-Fruit I still like.
The Goatesburg Rape White Portion, however, tastes like I'm chewing on a flower. I'll give it another go today or tomorrow, since I wasn't feeling in top shape when I tried it.

I still haven't decided if I like Goat Rape or not... Some days it tastes great, and some days it tastes like I'm sucking a pine cone... I think it will be a once in while thing for me...
