New snuser (Comments on Camel brand)

I have been a smoker for over 20 years and the last few months I felt like my lung capacity was decreasing an incredible amount so I started looking for an alternative. I loved smoking but it felt like I was dying!

I found out about snus and I ordered 2 cans of Strong Wise Citrus / Menthol this last Monday. I really am intent on quitting smoking so I bought a can of skoal peach and that really eased my cravings (haven't smoked for three days!) and it worked well. I have never really had anything against dipping and I did find it an agreeable expereince with one problem, the Skoal is very harsh and I felt like my gums were a touch raw even after one dip.

I found myself within 30 miles of a town that sells Camel Snus so I figured I would try it. Based on what I read here it is nothing like imported stuff but holy macaroni salad! Even the Camel Snus was an incredibly enjoyable experience.

I can't wait for my shipment to come in this Friday to try some authentic snus.

Just thought I would register for the site and share my thoughts so far.

The Camel brand seems rather sweet but nice and smooth and much more mellow that straight snuff. My first portion was pure bliss. I sat in a meeting for over 10 hours today and I was looking forward to trying it out. I was in the car with my wife and two of my employees who were looking at me strangely as I explained what I have read about Snus. I bought a can each of the three flavors and opened the original first.

Wow. I have not had an experience like this in my whole life. It was smooth, a touch sweeter than I was expecting like I mentioned before, mellow, and it hit the spot!

I do feel like I cheated though. I probably should have waited for the good stuff.

Thanks for the info I have read and I hope I can be a long time member of the community here.

    Ainkor, welcome to the forums

And almost all of us quit, or almost completely quit cigs with snus.

The Camel is nice, but it didn't exist until long after I was already using Swedish snus. But I still enjoy a Spice as an occasional desert snus.

The Wise is *almost* like a bridge snus. It is far different than regular Swedish snus, it is a "purified" product. Not that any of us have ever been able to figure out what they mean by that. But Wise is almost as different from traditional Swedish snus is as Camel.

But one thing that is VERY different, the Wise will pack a nicotine punch unlike anything you ever got from the Camel. It will certainly make the not smoking WAY easier.

But next order, take a look at the top 5 snus thread and note some similarities in favorites, and order a few of those as well. I love the new Pall-Mall, I love Mocca+, I'm a huge Nick & Johnny fan, Retro White is really good. And for a flavored snus, if you like licorice, try LD Black.

And welcome again to the forums. you must post when you get and have tried the wise. I can't wait to hear what you think!!

You didn't cheat, and don't be surprised when the "real" stuff comes. It won't be a thing like the Camel. It's salty, that's for sure. That seems to be the number one thing that throws off Americans at first. The saltiness can be a shock, but after a week or two, you'll like that, and you'll notice all kinds of subtle flavors. I'm interested to know what your order turns out to be. I've been snusing now for a few months and I wouldn't stop for the world.

I found out I don't care much for portions, though. The los is more flavorful, if a bit messy. If you decide to experiment with los, do yourself a huge favor and order a prismaster along with it. It's about a buck fifty, and it will help you prevent "mudmouth". You'll understand if you try it.

Even if you don't, this is a wonderful way to take your tobacco, and few decide it isn't for them. The community is growing, and should continue to do so as long as it gets harder and more expensive to smoke anywhere.

I guess what I'm saying is welcome, and take the example from sagedil and Xobeloot...they're proof that there's no limit on how often you can post!

Actually, I really like the taste of the Camel original. The Frost and Spice are ok, but I think the Original is the best by far.

Welcome to the forum. Like everyone else will tell ya (or already have) the swedish snus is bitter and not as sweet. Your top gums will get sore as did your bottom gums with dipping. Just move the snus around to prevent this. I smoke every once and a while but seriously cut down. In the last month i had 3 smokes. My advice is that if you drink stay away till you have been clean from cigs for atleast a week, it'll get ya every time

              (Sage - you're great - keep posting!)

Welcome to the forum. Hope your delivery arrived and you have tried it and found you liked it.

Otherwise I haven't yet quit smoking. I still make my handmades and love these things. Filterless handmade with D&R Threesails - and the occasional Stokkebye Amsterdam - smoking bliss!

                Day 4 not smoking update

I was really surpised at the low nic hit from Camel Snus. Last night about an hour before bed I took a portion of spice (love the flavor after about 30 minutes, very harsh before though) and I was craving a smoke hard core. I just went to bed rather than looking at my last two cigs sitting on my desk in my office.

I figured I would try a double portion this morning and it's been ok, not great, but just ok.

I was able to get my ass outta bed, get my kids off to school and do some floor exercise without running out of breath so that was a bonus.

I still have some skoal peach so I think I will take a nice big hillbilly dip as I take a shower to get that nic hit to start the day. One can of skoal has lasted me from Sunday to today and I still have about 1/3'd left so from an economical standpoint this might work out well

I should get my shipment either today or tomorrow based on what others have been saying about northerner so I will check back after that.

This kind of seems like an experiment to me, and from what all of you have said and I have seen so far, a very enjoyable one

Thanks for the hearty welcome into the community!

Oh p.s. - I swear I can freaking smell everything now. We have two dogs and dang are they smelly! We have had them for years and I actually got woken up really early by their musty smell. I honestly have never noticed it before.

                  Welcome Ainkor,

I like a lot of people here are / were in the same boat as you. I smoked for around 17 years and have been off the ciggys for about 6-8 weeks now. (even though my wife still smokes around me). I highly recommend some strong / sterk snus to get you through those rough nic cravings. It works well for me if I can just wait a couple of minutes for the nicotine to hit. On occasion i'll put in a sterk portion with a regular portion for a couple of minutes and i'm completely good with any nic fit.

Quitting smoking has been great for my lungs, taste buds and smell. No more coughing when I lay down at night. Its truly awesome. Portions are really the only option for me except the occasional loose at home. Portions are much more convienent in my line of work. Anyway welcome aboard and have fun trying out all the wonderful flavors snus has to offer. You'll find something you like which has been proven by Xobeloot who likes everything that nobody else likes :P Just kiddin Xobe..
