    Triumph Original and Mint

I've searched and found a few mentions of Triumph original and mint flavors. One of my 9 restaurants in close to the Georgia border so I figured I would sashay (it's the south, either that or mosey, but that didn't sound right) right across the border and pick me up some snus.

The first place I stopped I got some damn social commentary from the cashier about oral tobacco being gross and such. I almost told him "If I wanted to hear a jackass talk I woulda went to the state fair" but I just smiled and left.

    On to the snus....

Love the price! I am an in for a dime, in for a dollar kind of guy so I bought 4 cans, 2 of each. I didn't notice the price and it was only $7.00 for all 4! I said hell, throw in 4 more and I almost bought the poor lady out. A very redneck looking guy behind me asked me if I liked that stuff and I figured this would be the perfect time to try out my snus-evangelism so I told him it was great! No spitting, great flavor and it lasts forever. He looked at least somewhat interested but since my purchase was done I split. Not sure if he bought some but who knows!

    The original...

The smell is quite a bit more harsh than the taste. It almost smelled chemically to me. Based on my reading here though I was going to give it a shot if it smelled like a elephants left nut after a 100 yard dash. Over all it is sweet, but not too sweet like the camel versions. I like the tobacco flavor and it is a touch salty. The flavor did not fill my mouth all the time like camel does and in the end I liked it quite a bit. I really like the fruit hints as the portion drips after a while. I am on my second portion right now and I am about 45 minutes into it and it is very enjoyable.

    The mint...

It has almost exactly the same mint flavor from the camel frost but with an actual tobacco flavor with it. I found that it was not nearly as over powering as the camel frost which I thought was only good after a minimum of a half an hour so some of the flavor could fade. I really like the mix of the minty-ness and the subtle creaminess which was balanced well by the hints of tobacco. I still think that this particular flavor style would be a treat type of snus though.

On both I felt the nic hit and they were both very satisfying from an ex smokers point of view. I have not smoked in 6 days and so far today was the easiest. I have read that these are more american flavor focused and I can't wait for my sample pack to arrive from northerner but the Wise citrus / menthol just wasn't cutting it flavor (or lack of) wise. The nic hit is fine but if I am going to have something in my mouth I want to enjoy the taste of it!

One trick I found that was interesting, take the pouch and move it under your tongue. About 25-30 seconds after I did that I got a snap nic rush that was pretty cool!

Hope I am not annoying anyone with my commentary on flavors as I get them!

Good review. I love reading other peoples interpretations.

I like the tip about putting it under your tongue for a quick rush. I'm gona try that.

Triumph is by far the best American snus currently on the market. However, I'm not a big fan of either flavors; the original tastes & smells like rotten lobster and the mint flavor is too over-powering for my tastes. As well, cans of Triumph cost the same as Swedish snus, so I will only buy the mint if I'm on a date and want to have good breath.

        snujus,

Even though I found them to be agreeable to me, I am actually kind of excited by your comments. I probably should have ordered a sampler pack instead of blindly ordering what I did :P

Reminds me of an old salesman joke...

Salesman to prospective customer: "Would you like to buy this bag of shit for $29.99?"

Customer: "Hell no! why would I want a bag of shit?"

Salesman to prospective customer: "How about this other bag of shit? This is my last bag and I will not be getting any in for the rest of the year, don't you want to be the only person in town with a bag of shit? I can let you have it for a one time low price of $199.99"

        Customer: "Got two?"

Yeah man. Good stiff. All the stores here sell it for about $1.50 a can. I used to get it all the time but I burned out on the taste. Now it is just an occasional treat.

          Great review though!

Loved the review. I live across the street from a purveyor of said snus, and I loved them at first. However, once I decided that I liked los snus much more than portions, I really haven't revisited them. I'm glad you liked it though, they really are great, and I found that if you forget to fridge them overnight, it's not a big deal. They keep remarkably well.

I think you'll find that they are different than exclusively Swedish snus, that is, snus not sold on American shelves, in that they are much more powerfully flavored (I assume because SM decided that was what Americans were in to) than any other brand. Some people feel that this is a strong point, but I just prefer the subtlety of the more traditional offerings.

I WISH Triumph was available in my area, I've heard it's outstanding considering the other options available domestically. I traded some nasal snuff to AWoodstock for some Tourney and I'm probably in the minority, but it's not bad at all. I like the durability-factor, which makes Tourney a good keep-in-car backup snus.
If anybody would like to send me a trial-can of Triumph though, I have Oliver Twist, Taboca portion in the freezer, plenty of Elixyr Peppermint and some other stuff. Hit me up.

                ponysoprano,

I'd be glad to. Which would you prefer, original or mint, or 1 of each?

I'm pretty open to anything other than another domestic brand (Camel, Barfeloboro, or Skoal snuses) and definitely no Wise citrus / menthol (I have almost two full cans. Although it's got a nice kick, just not my style).

To give you an idea of tastes that are from a similar product that I like.. I like skoal peach and Copenhagen long cut. Not that I would trade for American chewing tobacco but more to give you an idea of flavors I know I like.

Something cool I noticed today! I actually took a break from snusing. For me today is the first time that I have not had a portion of some sort in my mouth other than when I was sleeping. I am not burning out on it I actually feel satisfied for a change!

From everything that I have seen Triumph is only being test marketed in Georgia and Ohio at this point. From the looks of if you are only about 2.5 to 3 hours from Georgia. I bet you have been looking for a reason to go for a road trip huh?

Or when I find myself near Georgia again I can pick ya some up.

Look around this site. Someone posted a link to an outfit that will ship out the Triumph snus. I have a stash but when I need more, thats where I will be getting it from. Or go to the snus exchange and fnd my post with all the snus that I didn't like. If you get enough from me I'll throw in a can of the Triumph mint.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

                          honestly,

the reason I have been looking for it, is to find a local substitute when I run out of the real thing. So far my only found local product is camel snus, and I fear for my teeth with that stuff....

I would not blame you. Camel snus always leaves my gums with a nasty burn that won't go away until an hour after use. The tobacco in Camel snus also resembles that of cigarettes:

Triumph IS real Swedish snus. Made and marketed by Swedish Match for American tastes.
