General Mint = Etten + Mint?

It have been going back and forth been General Mint and General Wintergreen while reading up on different brands that I may order online. My first instinct about the Wintergreen was that it was General Original with added Wintergreen flavoring and a bit of sweetener. At first, with the mint, all I could taste was mint and after 20 minutes when the mint ran out, I thought I was done and spit it out. However, I have recently started noticing that when the mint fades, that I'm left with a very pleasant nutty chocolatey flavor that I imagine is how Ettan might taste based on reviews that I've read. I've been able to keep my portion in upwards of two hours since I have noticed. I enjoy this very much and today have even noticed the additional flavors while the mint is still going strong. Had anyone else noticed this?

ps. I'm done with Wintergreen. It irritates my mouth a little.

That is really interesting. I am not a big mint fan so it has been a long time since I had General mint. You ought to pick up a tin of Ettan and test that theory. General will use different snus types as the base for another (e.g. Prima Fint is the base of Roda) so you may be on to something. Keep us posted if you find out anything

@Jangles - I think I agree with SD on this in that you're probably picking up on the nuances of the base snus once the mint flavouring has faded.

I get a really pleasant, subtle, dark chocolate/coffee taste going on in the background with Ettan and so from what you say it sounds like you might like it.

Let us know what you think and do leave us a review if you decide to try it.

Is it safe to say the that Ettan tastes like unscented American style aromatic pipe tobacco smells? This was my impression of Camel Mellow - but between such little nicotine and so much sweeter, ewww!

My go to pipe tobacco is a stout English blend.....so the latakia ruins this comparison for me. I would say that Ettan smells like a good natural tobacco.

That said it is NOTHING at all like Camel snus.....both in terms of quality and nicotine

Well, I ordered a roll of Ettan OP, a can of Ettan White, and a can of Göteborgs Rapé White. Wish me luck that I might enjoy them all!

Well, I only ever had one can of Ettan OP and didn't like it much. I prefer the taste of Ettan Lös, which is different, much more tobacco-ish, peaty and quite salty.

That said, I wouldn't have a problem to go through a roll of Ettan OP, it's a quality product with a still interesting and complex taste.

              Cheers!

Got my order, and I can say that if General is using Ettan as a base, they are doing so before adding the smoke flavoring.

That said, I'm not very happy with either of Ettans white or original portions. I find them just as bitter as General Original and White and I'm not crazy about the smoke flavor.

The Göteborgs Rapé is more interesting and I would like to give it a little more time to decide if I would buy a roll. I wish it had a bit more sweetness to it.

For now, General Mint is still my favorite. I need to look for an 8mg pouch flavored with licorice or maybe fruit. I do want to have some noticable sweetness, as I feel that is what is offsetting the bitterness that I've been finding in the unsweetened portions that I've tried.

@Jangles - A few suggestions for you to try.

                  Catch White Licorice
                  Göteborgs Rapé White Large Hjortron
                  Ld Salmiak White Portion
                  Odens Lemon White
                  Skruf Cranberry White Portion

or if you want really sweet....
                  Jakobsson's Melon Strong Portion
Jakobsson's Melon Strong Slim (White Dry)

Good luck with your search for your favourites.

Do strong slim portions hit harder than a regular portion of the same nic level?

@Jangles - They should be a comparable nicotine dose but slim portions would be slightly drier than brown portions, closer to white portions maybe, & so there's less moisture & snus weight & the portion can be smaller.

Remember white portions have a slower, longer-lasting nicotine & flavour onset than brown portions. Whether you prefer a fast or slow nicotine/flavour release is down to personal preference really.

                      Hope that helps.

Here's what I am wondering. If I have a 1 gram dry portion with 8 mg of nicotine and I also have a .5 gram dry portion that also has 8 mg of nicotine, does the .5 gram portion release the nicotine faster?

This question assumes that the tobacco nicotine content at one particular level and that the tobacco manufacturers add more nicotine to their stronger products. If this assumption is correct, I wonder if the added nicotine is released from the product more quickly than the nicotine that naturally resides in the tobacco.

So if I have a .5 g portion that contains 4 mg of naturally occurring nicotine and another 4 mg of added nicotine - I wonder if that added nicotine is released faster than the naturally occurring nicotine resulting in a harder initial hit than if the user had just used the 1 gram portion.

@Jangles - To the best of my knowledge snus manufacturers don't add nicotine to their snus. The amount of nicotine absorbed being governed through the type of tobacco used, how much leaf is used to stem and also the ph of the snus eg. how much nicotine is freebased.

The phenomenon you mention I have encountered with the new tobacco-free nicotine pouches (eg. LYFT 4mg) though. Like a much faster 'punch you in the face' kind of experience at half the nicotine content of an equivalent snus pouch (8mg) :-) Maybe that's just me though.

^^^This is spot on. Manufacturers are not adding nicotine. Instead, nicotine level is based on leaf type, leaf quality, and the ph induced freed nicotine

Thank you for the replies. After having od'd on nicotine gum (chewed too fast and got heart palpitations until removing the gum), I'm am cautious about using products that might release too much nicotine more quickly than my body can safely ingest it.
