anyone here quit smoking for at least a couple of months?

I quit in early august, last weekend I picked up a cig from a friend and just tried it out of curiosity. WOW....

It was like the first time I ever smoked one, vile and disgusting. The very first puff I coughed like hell and put it out immediately. To think I did over a pack a day for 28 years is astounding to me now.

I went a few months without picking up a cigarette; then I had one with a few friends, and I pretty much had the same experience (horrible taste and coughing fit).

I'll tell you what: It does not take long at all to get used to it again, though. A few more, and it was like I never quit. These days, I only smoke every great once in a while...

Well, it has not been really that long for me, just over a week now but I know what you mean. I quit for 18 months a few years back and the first cig I smoked after that was rough but then the addiction kicked right back in.

Snus has been an interesting experiment for me over the last week or so and only 3 times have I really REALLY wanted one. SO far I haven't and I hope I can keep it up!

When I really need a fix I just take a Wise Citrus / Menthol portion. I really don't like the taste but it kick the shit outta any craving I have almost instantly. I keep them on standby just for that reason!

Hey, congrats on not smoking also! I am using snus purely as a harm reduction tool so I can quit smoking. I tried going cold turkey but with stress from work (I over see 9 restaurants) I need something to keep me at an even keel or I have a tendency to fire folks.

I quit by using American Snuff and i feel you about how a cig tastes after not using in a while.

I do not smoke regularly but ive had maybe 2 or 3 in the past year.

They have all tasted like ASS and I felt like crap the very next day.

But i use snus and love where that part of my life is at right now.

Close to a year for me. I still have one now and again if I feel like it, but that is often months apart.

Been a little over 2 months smoke free. Don't even want one! I think I traded the addiction for 2 others. Snus and snuff!

~ 4.5 months since my last smoke. Sure, I miss them at times but I just pop in a Lucky portion and the urge goes away.

It has been about two years for me. I first started using dip to quit smoking (my wife wanted to quit so she could get pregnant...long story). Then I started using snus about a year and a half ago. This helped since the wife could not steal smokes from me. I miss the occasional smoke. It is quite a good nic hit compared to snusing. I do not hate the terrible flavor much, since I am usually drinking when I have a smoke. I can say that I have not had a smoke in almost 6 months and I would only have one if 1) I had been drinking and 2) someone has some smokes handy.

SNUS saves the economy and improves jobless numbers!! I love it. I like the Wise tip. I've heard it tastes like crap, but as a hard core smoker, I may have to give it a shot.

I've been off tobacco cigarettes going on 15 months now. I've used a combination of many things to keep myself from inhaling smoke. Nothing is off limits as long as I don't put tar in my lungs.

I've used snus for almost two years, in conjunction with smoking at first (in a no-smoking office environment), then as a way off cigarettes. E-cigarettes have been a lifesaver for me. Ditto my addiction to Stonewall.

But I wish I could say this is easy. Not for me. I have such a long history of reaching for the "reward" of a cigarette that the thought of smoking emerges many times each day. For me, I must WANT to quit, for health reasons, for the sake of others, too.

What an insidious addiction smoking is, to want what does you mostly harm. In snus and e-cigs, I've found an alternative to nicotine in smoke, and together they get me past multiple daily cravings.
