Sell me on los.

I am a portion user and have been for the past year or so. My local tobacco shop carries some SM products, including General Los. I am seriously considering trying it, but it seems like its dirty and a hassle to deal with. It's so easy to just pop in a portion and pop it out when done. I don't want to have to deal with wiping tobacco off my teeth when done either.

So...I've been reading this board for a while and I know many of you are diehard Los users. Tell me what the advantages are...what makes you guys like it so much? Sell me on the stuff and I'll probably go out and pick up a tin, or add a few tins to my next buysnus order.

with los the flavor is much more natural tasting to me, also the pris isn't as rough on the gums as the portions. Just a whole different experience. Less irritation, better flavor, what's not to like?

Personally I do los in the privacy of my home or around very close friends rather than worry about stray bits in my teeth in front of strangers

It has a better mouth feel, and the flavor is different than portions. Not always better or worse, but definitely different. I the case of Gotland snus. I could use a portion after the lös, and not feel like I was using the same snus twice. I'd get at least 1 tin just to experience what traditional snus is like.

Well im not as clever as xobe.

But Los is softer on the gums, plus you can control how much you want.

Plus you are getting 45-50 grams for the same price or cheaper as a can of portions which is 24 grams.

If you are interested grab a can and a prismaster.

Use the primaster until you get good at hand baking and i think you will enjoy it.

For me both Los and Portions have a place.

Los while im at home and portions when out in public or somewhere where i can discreetly dispose of it and not worrying about mud mouth.

Let us know if you venture on the dark side and get a can and how it works out.

And any questions about baking and so on will be answered here as a lot of people have a lot of experience doing it.

What would you guys recommend as a good los to start with? I'm a big fan of skruf stark portions, is skruf stark los good? I'm not a big fan of General, so I may want to steer clear of it.

Skruf is easy to bake and packs a nice hit.

General is also easy to bake.

Just steer clear of Gotlands and prima fint as far as baking goes until u get better

I'll probably go with the Skruf stark, love Skruf.

All of the Phantom and Offroad los snus varieties have a quite coarse grind which gives a good under-lip feel. They also stick together like glue. Usually you need a super fine los (Roda Lacket/Prima Fint) to get that play-doh like stickyness that you get out of OR/Phantom in a coarse grind.

I have never had Skruf portions, but Skruf los was the first los I ever bought. It seemed a bit dryer than most other los varieties, but good nonetheless.

A lot of people will tell you to jump into the Roda Lacket and Prima Fint labels as your first los because they are easy to bake. This is true, BUT, they are also SUPER finely ground which makes the probability for a mudslide far greater than that of a coarse grind. They are also some of the more subtle los varieties.

The biggest complaint I hear from primary portion users who try los is the inability to taste it. Los takes some practice when it comes to learning how to release the flavor without smearing the stuff all over your grill.

Don't go into it thinking you are going to get that same blast of flavor you get when you smoosh a portion under your lip for a rush of juice.

I'm sure I will think of other tips, but I'll stop rambling for now.

Los is my favorite. I only use portions sometimes because I bought some to try them. I find that you can control how much you want, the type of pris you want to make, and such subtle variables as those. Also, it is a much different flavour experience. Furthermore, los seems to me to absorb faster into the oral mucosa. You get more for your money, the ritual of handbaking is enjoyable, and when you're good at it it doesn't get in your teeth too much.

Hope you enjoy trying it. If not, stick with what you like.

I remember being intimidated by loose when I first started. But after you do it a few times you see how it's nothing to be worried about, and how enjoyable it can be. It's definitely a more dynamic experience in pretty much every respect. You'll certainly have fun experimenting with all the different kinds out there and homing in on the ones you like best.

As for recommendations, you're just going to have to play the field. No getting around it. Maybe try a can of Gustavus Original for a full flavor experience.

I also love Skruf Stark portions and also have Skruf los around. If you get the Skruf los be sure to get a prismaster and pack it well. Although they contain the same flavors they are slightly different and release differently, all in a good way.

I would recommend starting with a little and working up till you find what is comfortable for you.

I also enjoy Ettan and Grov, but trial is your best bet.

The Gotlands is quite coarse so I usually use my Icetool, but I have hand baked it with a bit more effort than Ettan/Skruf etc. If you don't want to buy a Icetool or Prismaster try Xobeloot's How-to
