I love Los but use it less and less as I am a little worried about the effects on my gums.
Sell me on los.

As a newbie I was sold on lös by my own curiosity (at least in the sense to order some just to try it - whether I'll like it or not). Lös has been sold for 150 years before anyone had the idea to put the tobacco in tea-bags. I don't think, that all the snus-users were dumbasses for this long time.
O.K. here's my try to "sell you":
+ much more nicotine (absolutely no doubt about that)
+ better flavor (IMHO)
+ easier on the gums (IMHO)
+ cheaper
+ adjustable size
- newbies will have to face a few "mudslides"
- really not usable in every (social) situation
Cheers!

I don't think you can really know if you like it until you try it. I felt the same hesitation at first. But hey, Silk, you are one of the few lucky enough to be able to walk into a store and buy it, can't be that expensive, right? No postage at least. I was hesitant until about my 6th online order and now I use portion to lös about 4:1. I agree with all of the above recommends also. I've found Röda is a snap to bake [granted I usually just roll a giant ball of the stuff]. If you're worried about mess and don't want to invest in an ictetool, get a Prismaster, they're well under $2.00 USD.

I'd recommend Ettan as a first lös. It isn't hard to bake, and it's the oldest snus brand on the market. Gotland Gul is delicious, and quite different from the portions. It's tough to bake, and it leaves a stinky brown stain in your hand :^D I would get that later if you decide to go for lös more, and pick up an IceTool or Prismaster to use it with.

I have to say, los all the way...I used portions for maybe a week or two until I figured out I didn't like the way the bags irritated my lip/gums. Los snus has a mouth feel that I always describe as "silky". Also, I've found that the coarser grind snus have a smoother mouthfeel (and they bake easier) than the fine snus.
Roda Lacket is a good first los, as it's kind of sweet, easy to bake and has just an overall cool can, but if you're not a fan of General, you may not love it. I describe rL as a kind of "kids version" of General, since it's a similar flavor, but sweeter and not peppery. I really like Grov, but it is very subtle; it makes a great snus for when you need a nic fix, but don't need a flavor explosion. (It's kind of like dark chocolate, or black coffee, and not terribly salty) I'm not a fan of Gustavus, since it's pretty dry and doesn't bake particularly well, so maybe not good for a first los try. Offroad and Phantom are great choices because they stick together well, and the flavors are very vibrant and approachable, although they upset my stomach, personally. (Lots of people like them, though, I wouldn't say my experience with it is the norm)
Honestly, if you get a brand you know you'll like, the difference will floor you, and likely make you a convert, if even just when you're at home. I'll say though, the only way people know I'm snusing at work is from the lump in my lip; it doesn't run down in my teeth hardly at all. And if possible, rinsing it out with a mouthful of water is a much cleaner removal than by hand, plus it will sweep out any stray grains your finger would have missed.
Good luck, anyway, I hope you try it and like it.

I realized that portions irritate my gums more, maybe due to the material of the bags. Honestly, I believe they've made some small tears that have caused a little bit of bleeding on two occasions. Never had this problem with los, so I'm going to have to keep my portion use down to every once in a while (like for when I'm sleeping or in a very formal situation). I know what my favorite kinds are (that's why I have a roll of Gotland Anis Los in my fridge), but I'm looking forward to trying some new kinds (going to give Grov a whirl next order).
