    Blackened Portions?

Anybody come across this; opening up a can of General originals the other day and I notice the pouches are almost pure black!

It doesn't look like it's seepage staining either, it looks too dark for that. I'm still snussin em and they don't taste bad at all but the thought is keeping me from total enjoyment.

They are a little old but still (barely) within the freshness stamp. I've snussed snus that was much older in the past but have never noticed this before. Anyone ever come across this before? I could swear there was a similar post a couple months back but can't find it. :?

I find that the black ones are much juicier and tastier, which is fine because I love General!

They probably just spent a little more time in the shower than their compatriots. I wouldn't worry...

Toekuttr (btw sweet avatar dude -- i should call you surgeon slice),

I don't think it's anything to worry about it either, I mean... I've had these super black Generals, and it's just the way they are sometimes I guess. I think basically it happens when the tobacco itself is quite moist when it goes into the bags before packing, as such, more of the residue leaks out into the stuff sprayed onto the bags and makes them a little darker than usual. Obviously, they will get blacker with time as the tobacco color diffuses out but this isn't any indication that the portions are 'bad' or anything.

I think with snus, it really doesn't matter what you do with it too much, it's always going to be 'safe' to use. Yes, if you leave it in a car at 90 degrees for a week solid when it's already past it's BB, it's not gonna taste 100%. However, I highly doubt it would do you any harm. In any case, the chance of anything nasty going on to raise TSNA levels is next to nothing in an unopened can since it's pasteurized so should be more or less sterile I believe before it's opened?
