Somebody tell me about Offroad Portions...

I've tried some of V2's offerings in loose: Licorice, Phantom Blue, and Julesnus. I liked the licorice and Julesnus, hated the phantom, and while I enjoyed the Licorice and Julesnus enough to order it on the rare occasion, I found that all of them seemed to taste a little rubbery after a while due to the underlying tobacco. However, I find that portions of other brands all taste pretty much the same to me. So, I'm looking to try some Offroad strong portions as an economical alternative to SM's offerings. I don't like paying more for portions than I do for loose, which I like better anyway; but sometimes, portions are all I can use (formal events). Any advice on which ones to go for? Cranberry sounds interesting but seems very different. Any feedback? Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    Dr. Snus

There's not many V2 portions that I like tbo. I'm really trying to like the Julesnus portions but, Vino isn't my bag and, I have a hard time getting around the taste. Coffee/Vanilla is pretty good and, an occasional Phantom Blue is pretty much all I care for. V2's lös, on the otherhand, I pretty much like them all.

I hate all of V2's portions. The difference between their portions and lös is the most striking I've found in the business. They're very salty, with a synthetic thin sweetness in the back. They're extremely light in color, and feel rough on the gums. If you've had Elixyr, you've had V2 portions.

there seem to be very fe wfans of their portions.

I was lucky enough to try some limited Los flavors along with a few others back in september and they Los was great.

I also enjoy phantom but snus is funny about how its hard as hell to settle on one brand at all.

Hell, order some V2 portions and judge for yourself.

You may love em, you may not, plus they arent all that expensive so its not a pain on the wallet.

The strong cranberry portions are very good. I used them almost exclusively for a while.

I still use Phantom and offroad portions on occasion (but like you, I use Los most of the time). The Los varieties are always a bit better and have a bit more rounded flavor. With the julesnus, I actually prefer the portion flavor, but that is a one-of-a-kind scenario.

I have always found that the flavor of a los tends to vary slightly from it's portion counterpart.

If you are a los user with the occasional need to use portions, go ahead and get portions of your favorite los varieties. They will never replace the enjoyment of a nice pris, but they won't be so different that they won't get you through a few hours at a formal event.

V2 is a very unique entity. They do things w/ flavors that others would not dare try. Some people love some, other people hate it all. Nonetheless, nobody can tell you that V2 isn't at the forefront of creating new flavored snus types, as well as listening to customer ideas and following through with customer suggestions.

All this being said, go ahead and get a couple of the portions. What is the worst that could happen? If you don't like it, you haven't lost more than a couple bucks a can. If you do like it, you've just found a nice cost-effective means to get you through those no-los moments.

Good feedback all. I've done some self-searching and retro-introspection, reminiscing on my three experiences with V2 products. I've decided that I like V2 a lot, especially considering my first experience with them. My first experience was the fourth can of loose I tried: Phantom Blue. It smelled like Windex and tasted like it too. Tried it again a month later, and it tasted alright. My second experience: Offroad Licorice. I tried it and liked it so much that I was afraid it might top Gotland's Anis as my then favorite. It didn't because I like the Gotland's consistency and bittersweetness more, but close enough. Third, I tried the Nordstrommen's Julesnus and didn't like it at first. Now, I'm craving it. It's really awesome. I actually don't get the weird consistency with it that I got from Phantom Blue (it's just a little dry for baking), so I think that V2 products might actually be an acquired taste.

I've been reading V2's website again and it seems like they're one of the few companies that's actually independently owned. I like that.

Recently, I've found that I really like Granit loose; as in, it's my current favorite. It's a plain-flavored tobacco that's basically tobacco and citrus. I see that V2 has some traditional snus flavors which might offer me more options for anytime all-day type snuses. I'd love one that is citrus with peppery undertones, but it looks like they only offer that in long-cut (whatever that means in the snus world).

Now, I know that Xobe is all about V2. I'd like to learn more about some of their more traditional flavors, so if anybody has feedback on those (in loose form), I'd like to hear about it (nudge nudge).

Phantom Classic is pretty much pure peppery tobacco and a bold citrus.

Offroad Original is a completely different monster. It has the peppery tobacco, but not as bold as the phantom. It's citrus/bergamot mix has the scent of pez candy at first, but mellows quickly to a great balanced flavor. A bit sweet in comparison to Phantom Classic

I order both by the roll.

I find Phantom Blue a little strong, not terrible, but it's not an all day snus.

Offraod wintergreen los is my favourite V2 that I've tried so far.

I like the licorice for a sweet one. Tried the strong, it was ok, as was the regular. I got them because of the price. Guess you get what you pay for..
