Klondike Fine-Cut "Snus"

They are selling this stuff at the corner store by my house. I went to pick up a few tins to send to Patrick over at V2 to taste.

They only had the fine cut, and I prefer los so I bought a tin of each for him and one for myself.

Flavors: Peppermint Blast, Wintergreen, and Straight. All three were overpoweringly sweet. It almost tasted like they used high-fructose corn syrup as a sweetner. The juice is extremely thick and syrup-like.

Consistency: Like any finely cut dip/snuff. Fluffier than los snus. It was unbakable by hand, but packed into my 5ml Icetool ok. Once in my upper lip, it quickly fluffed up and started crumbling. This stuff is definitely intended to be lower-lipped like American dip.

Overall: A good option for American dippers who want a low TSNA option for an even lower price (about $1.50/can after tax). For someone who likes real snus, this is not for you. Stuff made me want to hurl.

They are calling it snus, and touting that they use the traditional Swedish means of manufacturing it, yet, the options for it are definitely geared towards snuff/dip. Long-cut, Fine-cut and pouches.

I do not see this stuff selling well at all. The flavors are way too sweet (even in comparison to dip). As far as cost goes, there are several American dip varieties that taste better in the same price range (redman being one of them).

Maybe the pouches are better than the fine-cut? I will not be searching for them to put that possibility to the test.

Well, I found myself in Charlotte NC and I found a place that sells the Nordic Ice (pouch version of Klondike and save yourself the time..

Overly sweet and only 0.29g per pouch!

I picked up a few of the flavors (Wild Cherry, Mint and Wintergreen) and I was really not impressed at all.

Why do domestic companies insist on overly sweet tastes?

One will get it right and clean the clocks of the rest!

But until then, Don't waste your cash unless you enjoy something as sweet as candy in your mouth all the time.

I'm more disappointing by Klondike and Nordic Ice than the other offerings that have come out in the US. I think that as it was made by a division of Taboca AB, makers of Taboca, Monte Cristo, and R&L, that it would be an approximation of real Swedish snus.

Klondike

According to the trade ads, Klondike is geared towards dippers, but is indeed pasteurized Swedish snus.

However, the flavor choices would seem to be similar to Camel and Triumph, which claim to be geared toward smokers as a bridge product between cigarettes.

If Cope and Skoal are the top dips in the US, it remains to be seen why the Klondike is so sweet.

I've learned my lesson with American snus: never try it again! I was interested in the Skoal snus, but a reviewer claimed it was overly sweet and delivered small amounts of nicotine. I think Swedish match should market their General brand in America (I know some specialty tobacco shops carry General, but I would like to see gas stations and convenience stores have it in stock). If real snus was marketed in America, I think it would sell better than the pseudo-snus being sold at the moment.
