Please direct me to the sweeter varieties.

So I started off with free tins of Camel Original and Frost snus. This will probably be regarded as heresy by many here but I actually quite like how sweet they were. I then ordered 8 different varieties from getsnus.com(great 1st experience btw). Pretty much everything I ordered was not quite what I was hoping for.

    General (do not like)
Nick & Johnny (not much better)
Gotlandssnus Anis (slightly better but not great)
CatchDry Licorice (ok but not great)
Offroad Coffee Vanilla (headed in the right direction but still not there)

The Camel snus is $5 for 15 packets here so it is not exactly a good value and I want the higher nicotine content and quality control that seems to be associated with the Swedish stuff.

I realize that none of the Swedish varieties may be as sweet as the Americanized stuff but what can you recommend as the sweetest stuff that I could order from getsnus.com?

Triumph Original or Mint. There is no other swedish snus that is anywhere near as sweet. Trust me I tried them all looking for a sweeter tasting snus. Good luck
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

nothing I recommend is "sweet" however they are more rounded with a sense of sweetness.

First General Wintergreen. American flavor direction, lacking American sweetness.

Next Roda Lacket. Fruity notes, subtle twang of a lost reference to sweet.

Then Elyxr peppermint, kinda sweet in a diluted mint julep sorta way.

Probe whiskey follows, with it's unique take on whiskey flavor. Some say sweet. Not American sweet.

Finally skruf tranbar. this may be your best bet for a hybrid of salty snus and berry overtones.

Offroad cran is "sweet" so is offroad icemint.

no swedish snus is sweet in comparison to American chew or dip.

      good luck.

Trust me when I say this, start using swedish snus exclusively and soon the sweetness of the american versions will be terrible. Since you just started you will not like the tobacco taste, its is exactly like beer, it is an aquired taste that once you like it nothing comes close to that taste. Stick with these cans, then try camel snus again. I would put money on saying you will be back to swedish snus in short time, probably only a few portions of camel.

I'd suggest the Offroad limited flavors and Phantom Blue. They are not near as sweet as Camel, but in comparison to your typical snus, they are worlds apart.

   -Funny!... Hey I'm not laughing at you... I'm just remembering how I first reacted. Man, are YOU gonna do an about face in soon enough!

Don't be afraid to order from Sweden; The Northerner or BuySnus. Try Tre Ankare for a lightly salted & easy to take tobacco flavor. Try Offroad Strong Cranberry for a good nic hit and a not bad flavor. Listen to P. Parrots, any way you can, get your hands on Triumph Original (a light peach american sweet flavor) or Triumph Mint (if you like american wintergreen). Wise Citrus & Menthol for a very light/sweet menthol, completely non-tobacco taste with no salt.

Ignore the Phantom Blue advice - That's just for Iron Men among us (not me), but if you're really brave, give it a shot.

That's all from me... Good luck.

The Mocca Pomegranate is very refreshingly fruity and sweet. (These are white mini portions.)

I find Probe to be sweet in a subtle, subdued way...

... but rollinred is exactly correct. Snus is an acquired taste, but worth the effort if you are going to use smokeless tobacco.

I liked the Catch white eucalyptus when I got tired of stronger more traditional flavors like Nick &Johnny Sterk, or the abrasive floor-cleaner flavor of Elixyr Power Energy. Röda Lacket white portion is a good snus to acclimate you to "Swedish flavor" when you're used to something sweeter, it has a tobacco flavor with light fruit undertones, pretty mellow. My buddy at the gun club was using Camel Frost and his first experience with Röda was described as "strawberry jam on toast!", and you'll find that Triumph original is essentially Röda white portion with a massive Americanized sweetness.

I've never tried dip, but from the description it sounds like it must be saturated in sweet syrup or something. Sweeter than Probe? Sweeter than offroad?? Almost hard to believe

I believe it's molasses zero. Either molasses or the combination of another sweetener with the byproducts of roasting in the base tobacco makes it seem that way.

Chew is sweet and acrid at the same time.

Why not try snusing half general half sugar cube :P Or add a bit off golden syrup.

Hey friend, I'm just letting you know that I had the exact same thought process and made my first order towards the "sweeter snuses"

it didn't really work. The ones I've tried are pretty gross, whereas the Grov black(not sweet at all) I loved.

I've dipped almost anything for the past 2 years- it's just not the same thing.

That said, they are right that you loose your sweet tooth pretty quick. I kind of orient snus more like a food(you wouldn't want all your food sweet!) rather than dip or camel snus which I thought of as a treat or candy.

There are many flavors that are enjoyable without being sweet. It just takes some searching- I find that the more straight tobacco flavored ones have their own "sweetness" as part of the natural flavor. good luck.

id recommend getting off the sweeter snus because they tend to be weaker on the nicotine scale.

that said i bought catch dry peppermint at a store whilst waiting for my order to come in via northerner, and that's very sweet. its literally like having a candy cane. the only downside is that they're minis and have less nicotine content. but you can always double up or something.

I bought some Triumph Original locally yesterday and that is definitely a step in the right direction as far as taste is concerned but even though it is a Swedish Match product it doesn't seem like it has the nicotine content of the regular Swedish stuff.

I smoked a pack a day for 17 years and have started another quitting effort. I can definitively say that, for me, snus is a vastly more satisfying and convincing nicotine substitute than even multiple pieces of the strongest nicotine gum I've tried so I'm eager to find some varieties I can actually live with for an extended period. Stuff like General is just not a taste I want in my mouth for any longer than it takes to extract the nicotine.

I just ordered a can of pretty much everything people recommended in this thread so thanks for the tips. Hopefully I'll find a winner.

Your post reminds me of my initial thoughts when I began using snus almost a year ago. I switched from cigs to Camel snus and really liked it but a little web research led me to swedish snus. I was surprised to find that a ton of flavors existed out there and ordered a bunch of different ones. What a disappointment...at first. I was not expecting the salty flavors. A few guys on here basically told me to keep at, which I have. I now think Camel is too sweet and some of those original swedish flavors I disliked at first, I now like. One snus that I just got that, IMHO, that is the sweetest swedish snus is the holiday Gotlands Julesnus and that Northerner Energy portion, which has a honey flavor to it, just wish they would make that without the 'energy' part so I could use it all the time. So anyway, keep at it...I think snus is like beer for some people, it's an acquired taste for sure. Also, the other problem I had was not placing the portions in my mouth correctly, I learned that if I place them too far back, almost on top of my molar teeth, the flavor and juices run out extremely fast, which made me had to spit the portion out in disgust. By placing the portions closer to my front teeth, I have eliminated this problem. Just my 2 cents...
