Ok, I was in the mood for exploration and ordered a few new brands:
Grov Svart: This is it! I'm not exaggerating when I'm saying that this is the perfect snus. It is subtle but strong. It's salty but doesn't make me thirsty (unlike all other snus). It's mild but tasty. It tastes of tobacco, but not of smoke. It's smooth, but not runny. And it doesn't have the sour aftertaste of the other SM varieties. The strength is just perfect; it takes away all cigarette cravings, but doesn't make your head spin like extra sterk or skruf stark. In a way, it tastes like the aftertaste of a decadent French breakfast: Cafe noir, gauloises, and a shot of pernod...but without the rough edge. And it's less expensive than General.
Now for the others:
Claq qui: It's acceptable but still flawed. Like all original pouches, it's somewhat runny. But my main complaint is the taste of walnuts and almonds...makes my throat itch and requires a water bottle. The strength is good, though. I'm going to finish my two tins, but will not reorder.
Extra sterk: This one is like sterk, but stronger, wetter, and has the characteristic sour aftertaste of all the General brands, sort of like the hint of having thrown up re-refrigerated fish a few days earlier. And the strength makes you feel exhausted --- it reminds me of the morning after a drinking-and-chainsmoking binge (ok, it's not that bad -- if I recall my college days accurately). The problem with the extra strength is that it kind of sneaks up on you - you'll feel fine for the first 10 minutes and then you all of a sudden get a weird combination of hyper-alertness, exhaustion, and an in-brain hammer-wielding carpenter.
Offroad Cranberry: Ugh. This is the most artificial-tasting candy ever (but they forgot the sugar). Vile. It makes Skruf cran seem like the best snus ever. I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish this. Tastes like cardboard, Diet Coke, sandpaper, and nicorette.
Offroad Wintergreen Long Cut: I ordered this because I was developing a craving for Grizzly Wintergreen, which is unavailable here in the Orient. I like Grizzly WG because it tastes like my favorite toothpaste (I brush my teeth several times a day because of the taste) with just the right strength in terms of nicotine. Offroad WG is miles better than their Cranberry "snus", but still not very good. Incompatibe salt and sugar with too little nicotine.
So I will be ordeing Grov Svart from now on, although I might order a few of the still-unexplored options (perhaps ettan, grov original, and lucky strike...but I think they're probably too weak).
