    White or Original portions

I am fairly new to snus haveing only used it for a few months now. I am curious to hear seasoned snuser's opinions on if they like white portions or original more. I love Ettan but have never had the white portions. Any opinions on this brand would be nice as well. By the way I am not big on los unless it is licorice flavored.

I honestly like original portion better, although I have only been able to compare with General since that is the only one I have had both of. My reasons against White are as follows:

    1. White portions are just too dry for me. If I put it in, it will rub against salt-irritated spots on my lip and hurt, so I always end up licking the outside of them first before putting them in.

    2. I never taste them if I don't put water on them in my mouth. Under my top or bottom lip, they just never get moist enough to let me taste the flavor, so I have to drink something, and splash it against the front of my mouth.

Those are my views on them. I don't dislike them to the point of not using them, but if I have a choice, I will get regular.

For me the regular portions are the best. I like the juicier flavors. I only like 3 whites. Roda, Tre Ankare and General Sterk. Ettan Regular are much better than the white. I didn't like the white portions at all. Virtually no flavor. Ettan portions are close to the loose flavor.

A lot of white portions have tobacco with the same content as the regular ones but the material is sometimes not as nice. Regular portions for me but do like the black portion material.

The best way to judge white portions is to try them. I personally prefer original portions (more taste, better feeling on the gums, more nicotine), but order a can of new brands, who unfortunately mostly come in white portions, every now and then.

I don't think that white portions were developed to make a better product but to appeal to new consumers, who are disgusted by the "used-mini-diaper"-look of original portions.

Nonetheless, one cannot say that the producers do not try to make white portions more usable. The white pouch material seemingly becomes better and better and the less pronounced taste and slower nicotine-delivery is not a bad thing with every brand.

          Cheers!

Alright, time for a white portion fan to weigh in.

The first year or so I used snus, I mostly used just original. But suddenly, over the course of several weeks, the flavors of original snus just started hitting me too fast, like it was too strong, and I found myself spitting a snus out in less then 15 minutes.

Finally, I decided to try some whites, as I understood the flavor might be more muted and therefore, suddenly appealing to me. And I found the whites were perfect for what I was looking for. They tasted good without being "too" strong.

There are a number of snus that I use the whites where I won;t use the regular. Lucky Strike and Retro come to mind. I do find I slightly prefer the regular PalMal over the white, but it's close and the PalMal is not an overwhelmingly strong snus.

With everything snus, your preferences will be different than others, so try them, see what you think.

Some of the regular portions aren't really any juicier than white portions, such as Skruf and Nick and Johnny. The drier regular portions are my favorite.

I wish General X-S wasn't so damn juicy..............

Do whites tend to run less? I think I prefer whites, they stick to my gums better and seem to last longer.

for me the whites run less and im able to tuck them further back in my mouth. I also like whites because i dont have to worry to much about them going bad on me. However i do like to have regulars in my new fridge to relax with and enjoy the flavor. I dont think one is better than the other when compared overall, but each one serves a different purpose, and has its strong points
                  BTW N&J whites ammmmaaazing!

I like both about the same; I would say that I use whites more often, though. The regulars sometimes end up tasting like butt if they are left out all day, whereas the whites tend to keep better unrefridgerated...even if they've been in your pocket.

Either way, with some brands you just don't have a choice between whites or regulars anyway.

I use mostly regular portions, but I think I still like Ettan White better than regular. I don't really like the smoke flavor of Ettan regular. Other than that, I like juicy regular portions, like General and Grov...

White portions are not my cup of tea. I absolutely love General Ekstra Sterk but detest General Sterk, because the odor and flavor is ruined by the lack of excess juice. As well, white portions just look odd... it's like having pizza without the cheese.

I agree with sagedil. I can really appreciate the regular portions when I need a (nic) hit quick--typically when drinking or just craving a smoke. However, other times I want to sit back and enjoy the subtle flavors snus so wonderfully offers us over time. GR #2 white portion takes about 20 mins to really get the lingonberry, but it's worth it. I agree that they fit higher up in the mouth, juice less, etc. and I do sometimes lick the portion/add water. Too much will ruin the flavor, though, so in moderation or use a straw. White portions are also a bit easier on my stomach if I'm just snusing (not drinking water/soda/beer/etc.).

I've been using General regular portions for 8 years now. When they introduced white portions at some point and I couldn't find regular ones in stores, I thought the world had gone mad. Why replace this cool juicy regular portions with some tasteless crap? It's just beyond me.

p.s. Dying to try Extra Strong ones although it's unlikely that they'll appear in stores here. Because of the economic turmoil the shopowners are taking no risks with new products here, so it's either Ettan (as disgusting as White Portions) or common General (thank God for that).
