Here's a thought: shipping costs involved in (probably) flying the stuff over from Sweden.
Plus I don't think they want to differentiate their new-fangled snus to unsuspecting Americans only on the basis of price. Let them get used to the stuff on its other merits.
I for one can hardly see Kronan as being "cheap" except that the webshops have been marketing the stuff as a low-priced snus since its introduction and so we don't know any better. The price may say so but it's still nowhere near "cheap" as far as quality is concerned.
Maybe they skimp on the humectant (E 422, E 1520) a bit 'cause it dries out somewhat faster than other lössnuses.
