    I am still wondering why...

I am still wondering why we can not obtain a standardized description of snus that is being produced. What I mean is...something more descriptive than what one would receive at buysnus or any other on-line retailer. I am quite sure that there are testers for each batch of snus that is made that determines if it is suitable for consumption. If I am correct, then there must be some sort of "flavor, aroma, mouthfeel" guideline that must be present to describe the snus that is authorized for consumption. Anyone got any idea of the best way we can obtain these? Maybe contacting the manufacturers themselves? It seems that so many newbies purchase things blindly that a good product description might help them and all of us. Do the moderators of this forum have contacts that might be able to help us? Your thoughts.....

If you mean "why can't we get better descriptions", then I would say it is mostly subjective. While some snus has pronounced tastes, someone else may say it is something completely different.

Having descriptions like this would have pros and cons. Maybe it might help someone avoid a snus that they would not like, but in another case, someone may avoid a type that would be their brand simply from a description. I actually like getting different kinds and finding out for myself. They aren't all that expensive, so what if I end up throwing some unused snus away?

I would however be interested in how the manufacturers would describe their own products in detail...

I agree with jackolantern. It's indeed very subjective. Sometimes there is no better description than "comes in original portions and has a classic taste".

Swedish Match's webshop ( http://www.swedishsnus.com/ ) IMHO gives the best descriptions, very short but mostly dead-on. One roughly knows what kind of taste to expect, yet nobody gets scared off to try a brand. It would be fine to have comparable descriptions from the other manufacturers.

      Cheers!

Each manufacturer should have a professional "taster" that determines if the product is fit for consumption: off notes, contamination... There should also be an objective flavor/aroma description made up by the professional so that off notes can be detected by other quality control employees. I realize that this may not be the case for snus manufactures, especially the smaller ones, but it is the best way to obtain objective product descriptions. Hence my push towards obtaining an official product description from the manufacturers themselves.
