    2. I imagine damage happens in some form or another. AFAIK it isn't health threatening in any way. There's people at snuffhouse.org that have been using large quantities of snuff for years, and they don't report any adverse affects.

You'll probably want to practice at home before taking snuffing to work if you're around people a lot. The usage is discreet, but sometimes large quantities of brown snot are produced :^D some brands are worse with this than others. I would say the most discreet snuffs are the Americans, and English toast snuffs.

It's cheap enough to try. If you want specific recommendations, I could give you a small list for a first order that'll give you a good idea of the range of snuffs.
I appreciate the response! After doing a bit more reading, and seeing the "pinch up each nose" method, I do see how it would be hard to do "too much" without knowing.

And I would appreciate a list of what you would consider a good first order, because I pretty lost with this stuff. About the only thing I know is that I don't like flavored things, like Raspberry, or things like that. At least, I don't like it in snus. The citrus, bergamot, etc. are good, but I am not a fan of say, cranberry. Also, if you had a link to a good supplier that would be awesome. Thanks!

I'd go for some like Toque Original or Wilson's Best SP. Toque Whiskey and Honey and Wilsons Irish High Dry Toast 22 is good too, but it takes a little bit of getting used to, because they are finer and you have to inhale slower and more carefully. You'll definitely want to grab some McChrystals O &G as well, as it's pretty much the "go to" Menthol.

Here's the retailers I use. I've had great experiences with both of them.

http://www.snuffstore.co.uk/ This company has the largest selection I've seen online, and the service is excellent. They're located in England though, so for a rough idea of what the prices are, double the the amount of £ to get $(it's actually a bit less, but it's better to overestimate expense, that way there's no surprises)

http://nicotinerush.com/ These guys are based in the USA. He's fairly new, so he doesn't have a huge selection atm. Service is fantastic, and selection is reasonable.

Since you live in Texas, you may be able to find some of the American brands at a local tobacco shop, grocery store, or drugstore. I find they aren't uncommon in ares that support a more rural population.

Here's my top 10 list for a new snufffer. This will give you a good idea of the range of snuff styles, and I have personal experience with all of them. There's some others that would be worth a try also, but I won't recommend them as I haven't tried them myself.

I had to make a couple of substitutions since a couple brands I like were sold out. These aren't necessarily my top 10, but it gives a good overview of different snuff styles. This list is just the tippiest top of the iceberg, and there's much exploration to be had. One of the great joys of snuffing imo :^)

Wow, I appreciate all the info! I am in the midst of checking it all out. One thing I am wondering while I am looking at this stuff, is how much is the average daily consumption of a more heavy user? A lot of these brands are around $2.50 for 10g! That sounds like a lot for not much money...

I think the very top end is about 10g per day. That's a huge amount compared to what I use. I think 3g-5g per day is what a typical full time snuffer uses, and I'm probably somewhere between 1g-2g. I would expect a 10g tin to last a new snuffer 1-2 weeks.

I am at best about 2 g a day, probably closer most days to 1g. Plus, maybe a slight reduction in the amount I snus.

I use about a gram a day. I have only been snuffing for a week and a half. I could see using triple that without snus.

After a week of trying I can tell you Wilsons Irish High Toast #22 is quite the experience for a noob. I think I just "got it" today.

Score! I found the WE Garrett and Sons in a tobacco store about 100 feet from my house!I got a can of it, and I have now commenced staring at it to figure out the best way to do it and to store it. I know I need a snuff box, but I don't think that can be had on my street at 7pm in the evening. I am going to wait a bit until I start niccing to try it, to make sure I am taking in enough.

As a side note, man this stuff is cheap! It was $5 even for the can, which weighs about 1.15 oz. Now if a couple small pinches is all you need, this can would last me about 2 months, even without mixing any snus in there.

I know that this is surely not the best snuff to be had (most of the ones advertised online are easily 2-4x more expensive by weight), but I am excited to try it. I will report back in a little bit after I do so

Take it *VERY* easy with the American snuffs. You want to just barely sniff it, or it'll shoot into your sinus', and the back of your throat. Use a small amount, and take a gentle sniff from the pinch in your fingers. WE Garrett is my favorite American scotch I've had so far. It has a pleasant smokiness that seems to last forever.

                      Edit:
Keep in mind that the Americans are very different from English and European snuffs. They can be tricky for a beginner, and are much more punishing when snuffed improperly. I'd say their the trickiest to take, but very rewarding once your technique has been perfected.

                        OWWWWW! ops:

I guess I should have waited a couple more minutes to get some feedback on the brand I got before jumping into it  Wow, did that ever burn. And yep, its all in the back of my throat and burning up my sinuses as we speak...oh my God...

So where am I trying to hit in my nose? In my nostrils? I am a bit confused now...

Ideally you want it in the front of your nose. Take a smallish pinch, and just lightly breath in. I've heard it described as smelling a flower...

The Americans are the toughest snuffs I've tried in getting proper application with. The closest English equivalent(Irish High Dry Toast) is much easier in comparison. I wouldn't normally put it on a beginners list, but I think they're essential to experience the full range of snuff types. The Gawith Apricot I listed is super easy to take, and almost candy like. I would consider that the best snuff for someone new to snuffing.

Don't get discouraged using the American snuffs. They're really a whole different beast, and aren't typical of snuffs in general.

Thanks for the tips. I think I have a better idea on how to do it now. Also, thanks to everyone who posted how much they use. It is as cheap as I thought it was. I guess that just leaves more money for buying awesome snuff boxes

Also, I think I will probably be buying most of the snuffs on your list in a week or two. While I am sure I will end up not liking some of them, this is how I did snus, and I think I am better off for it. My first order was about $60, and was all over the place on variety. I could not use a third, used but will never buy again a third of it and liked a third of it. This gave me great direction in the kinds I like, and I know what I don't like.

However, even though this is my first experience with any kind of nasal snuff, I love the smell of it. It just has such a rustic, dignified smell about it. I really can't explain it any better than that.

I'm glad you're digging it. The American brands were my first, and they struck me as smelling "old". I mean that in a good way. It kind of took me back to an old house, with wide plank floorboards, oil lamps. and a slower quieter vibe. For those of you around my area, it smelled like old Annapolis, or maybe Harpers Ferry WV. Really hard to put into words, but I think you got it jackolantern :^)

                                jackolantern, LMAO

You sounded just like me Friday when I did my first. The first few hurt like hell until I started figuring out dosage levels. It gets easier from here, I promise.

The best part about snuff is it really is cheap. Plus, I don't really need to worry about getting more than one of every flavor I might want to try as a tin, especially a 25g tin, will last me a long, long time. I ordered three from Toque to start me off. That order was $12. Ten, because I wanted to buy a bullet to try, I ordered a bunch more from Nicotinerush. I ordered 6 more, and spent like $25 with shipping. So snuff really is an inexpensive habit.

I know I have a world of snuff still to discover. Took me a good 1 1/2 years to try every snus. I'm in no rush now.

Welcome to the interesting new world so many of us are discovering.
