A tale of shifting snus preferences.

So with the arrival of V2 Thunder, and the fact I am on my last can of Elyxr, I decided to place a new order today. And I swear, it was the strangest snus order I have ever made. $120, and I didn't buy a single flavored snus.

I have been snusing now for close to two years. And for almost that entire time, I have had one habit that has stayed consistent. I keep 2 tins of snus with me at all times. A regular one, and a flavored one. I used to always switch between them. Have a regular, then a flavored. That helped "reset" my palate every time. But lately, I have just been finding I simply really don't like flavored snus any more. I have been having less and less of them.

Last week, I finally tried my new pairing taking a strong regular snus with me, and a "weak" one. So I paired up Oynx with Pall Mall white for example. Same principles applied though. The Oynx would start to taste rather strong, so I had a Pall Mall to reset so to speak. Then I was ready for another Oynx.

I am sure I will buy some flavored snus again, but will wait till I am done with what I have. But for the most part, I think I will just stick with non flavored snus.

For flavors, I have my snuff now.

I know what you mean. I've purged all the flavored snus out of my collection. I'm using about 6 flavors at a time now.

    Skruf Stark
    N&J
    General Ekstra
    Ettan
    General
    Grov

Yeah some of those have more "flavor" than others, but I think they all have a dominant tobacco flavor, and I'm loving every one of them!

I've found myself doing the same. I still use some flavored snus, but it's mostly confined to Gotland products. I switch between a Gotland, and Landströms, and once the Landströms is gone, I guess it'll be Ettan and Grov. I still like all the flavored snus I used to use. It just doesn't hit the spot like it once did.

        I smell a conspiracy!

I usually keep two or three kinds of snus on me at all times.

For example, today I went to work with Ettan original portions, Gotlandssnus grey and a can of Triumph original.

I can honestly say that even my usual favorite, Goteborgs #2 is wearing a little thin on me. Some times I find that I just want a snus, nothing fancy, just something that is subtle yet flavorful.

Got my next shipment in and I got a few new ones to try too:

Lucky Strike white portions (I love the original, but I prefer white portions)

Pall Mall white (First one I tried, damn these are good!)

Offroad Cranberry (I love Skruf Tranbar so I figured why not!)

        Some more Goteborgs #2

But I dig what your saying sagedil, I find myself gravitating back to a more classic snus each time.

I love Ettan, General and Grov almost equally. Hopefully Lucky Strike whites will be as good if not better than the originals. Just bummed that I only ordered 1 Pall Mall. I have to wait at least two weeks to order so my wife doesn't freak out :P

I generally do the exact same thing! I always keep a flavored and a traditional tobacco tasting Snus with me at all times.

Having said that, I STILL love my Triumph. (and those that love me, feel free to keep my in supply  ). But my Triumph has always been a specialty snus, usually my last snus of the day before I go to bed. Kinda like the coda to my first thing in the morning Elyxr. Both are extreme specialty snuses that fulfill a niche, but are never carried with me during the day.

For that, it will just be the new V2 Thunder, a bit of Oynx, some Lucky Strike White, my old reliable favorite Retro White, everyone's favorite Knox, and my new found passion Pall Mall regular. Plus a couple of the trendy Claq Qui's, and Buysnus offered me a can of General Sterk as my freebie

Definitely got fewer flavors then normal. But these always make me happy, and I will switch around enough so they don't get stale. Now just waiting for my next order to try out the new Skruff Stark whites.

Gotland Anis used to be my favorite. Now my top two snuses are Phantom Classic and Offroad Cranberry. I like to switch between them, because I love the classic snus profile of Phantom, but I also like the mild Cranberry flavor mixed with tobacco in OR Cranberry. I find it to be more mild than any of the other Offroad products, subtle with a predominant tobacco flavor.

I'd say my favorite profile is the plain/classic flavor (Phantom Classic, General, Granite, etc.). I used to like Grov a lot but now it just tastes like pickles to me. I also used to like the rose/bergamot profile (skruf, LD, and arguably OR Original), but I've found that for quite some time now I'm just grooving on the plain goodness of the classic "generalsnus" profile, with some OR Cranberry to mix it up. For portions I have invariably preferred the plain flavored sterks. However, I have a suspicion that I'll like Thunder .

Isn't it interesting how we tend to narrow in on a flavor profile that is our favorite, but we often still like to mix it up a little?

This is exactly what I have been doing. I would carry a flavored snus in one pocket, and a regular one in the other (General, Gustuvus, etc.). I have now also stopped using my flavored ones as much, and am more interested in just using General-esque snus all the time.

Only thing that is odd is that I have only been snussing for about a month

Only been snusing for a month, and about to hit 100 posts. You are my kinda man jackolantern

Shifting tastes seems to be a hallmark of our little snus passion. My tastes have moved all over the map over these past two years. Some consistency, but not much.

Things I once loved, i don't like any more and snus I didn't like much has grown on me. just seems to be the way it is.

Same here. I've developed an aversion to most flavoured snus. I tried a can of Roda Lacket that I had received as part of a trade recently and I am just not enjoying it as much as I thought I would. Instead I find myself reaching for Skruf Original nearly 90% of the time.

Other than the Skruf Original portions my current orders consist of

                    Gotlands Yellow (lös & portion)
                    Ettan (lös & portion)
                    Grov (lös & portion)
                    General (lös & portion)
                    Skruf Stark lös
                    Knox (lös & portion)

Of the flavoured snuses only Gotlands Grey (lös & portion), Gotlands Green, Skruf Tranbar and Göteborgs Rapé lös are still regular orders, but I find them all to be more subtly flavoured that some of the other flavoured snus out there and I don't get bored with the taste..
