    A newbie's story

a bunch of people here have already given me a nice welcome, so I figured I'd share my story on how I've ended up here.

OK I was born on a hot summer night in Chicago Illinois...J/K

Sorry for the poor shot at humor, but anyways the short of it goes I've been dipping Kodiak since 1990, at least one can a day everyday now and over the past few years I have looked into various ways to get my vitamin N.

Almost 3 years ago now I started buying various snuffs and have ammassed over 140 different varieties. While I do enjoy my snuff, it just doesn't do it for me with my oral addiction.

A little over a year ago I gave some snus a shot.

    First order
    1- Roots Lime/Licorice (horrible)
2- Roots Pilsner (the most vile tasting thing that has ever entered my mouth)

This experience obviously went very bad for me, but about a week ago a decided to give it another shot and placed an order with getsnus

    1-General Onyx
    2-General Maxi
    3-Nick & Johnny West
    4-Nick & Johnny East
    5-Claq Qui
My Freebie was Ettan White portion

while waiting for my order I picked up some General Los, and General White portions.

These snus's have definately been better than my first experience, but I am having a hard time adjusting to the bitter bergamont taste that each of these snus's have. It's not that the taste is horrible but rather I am just not used to it with my previous 19 years of oral tobacco developed tastes. The nic kick though seems strong enough to satisfy, so I am giving this snus thing a long enough shot this time for my tastes to acclimate.

Just placed a second order today for some more flavored styles...
    1-Gotlandssnus Julesnus Loose
    1-Jakobsson's Ice Fruit Portion
    1-Offroad American Wintergreen Portion
    1-Offroad Apple Portion
    1-Offroad Cranberry Strong Portion
    1-Offroad American Wintergreen Loose

I'm glad to be here and will be glad to share in my thoughts on any of the snus I have, but won't get too detailed yet until I at least finish a full can or so. I will say of the ones I've tried my favorite thus far is the Claq Qui which to me has a nice bitter fruity taste to it.....

Holy shit you're gonna have a lot of snus.

I'd have over half that shit open in one day trying all the different styles and flavors.

Good luck finding one you like. After almost a year I'm still using three or four different kinds on a daily basis.

Snus is so much better than dip. Although I still usually have a fat dip of cope longcut in the morning shower. I am on a sterk kick lately due to the new releases from swedish match. I plan on rolling on to the new v2 offerings as soon as they're all available.

I have about 45 different cans in the freezer now. I need to make a stop at the snus exchange. Last time I tried no one wanted any of the Montecristo I have. I aint parting with my claq qui, roda, or extra sterk though.

I love the Claq Qui. Next order, also give Pall Mall regular, Knox, and Lucky Strike a try.

I just had my first snuff ever last Friday. I am still so new2 but already well addicted to what snuff can do for me. So maybe you can teach me about the snuff while I help guide you into the snus world.

Is there any special guide to storing snuff?

I've got maybe 20 different kinds. I just tossed them in a drawer and pick at them when I get a hankering.

Will they lose any quality? They seem just as good as the day I bought them. I seem to clog up after a few good sniffs and I figure what I've got is going to last me a long time.

Not that I have heard. What little I have learned so far seems to indicate the stuff stays just fine for a VERY long time. I suspect over the next couple of months, I will soon have at least 20 too. When my Nicotinerush order comes, I will already have 9.

It seems from my reading that keeping them in a cool, dry, dark place is about all you need to do. Unless you are talking years of storage then you need a really good humidor. I keep the ones I'm not using in the gun safe. I have some moisture collectors in there to protect the metal.

Yep bakerbarber, snuff will lose it's potency pretty quickly in a dry, arid envirement, like wintertime in most places. Dry snuffs will stay 'fresh' basically forever, but the moist ones will dry up and lose flavor quickly. It's not a big deal though and rehumidifying will restore it's original potency.

The best way to avoid it is to store the moister selections like most of Toque, Wilsons, McChrystals etc in an enclosed controlled environment. Nothing fancy necessary, an empty coffee can or the like with a sealing lid, tupperware etc work fine, empty peanut butter jars are a favorite. :P Poschl and a couple others like it defy overly drying with the use of wax/paraffin as the moisture agent and can stay fresh for quite some time.

As far as storing your snuff, I basically keep them all in a cool dry place.

One thing I do recomend though is utilizing electrical tape to reseal the tins that are not in your regular use.

And of course, the more empty the tin, the more air their is in the tin. If you can transfer snuff from cans that are more than half empty into smaller containers, smashboxes are cheap and work great.

Here is a pic of about 3/4 of my collection...you can see the black smashboxes in the bottom left, and the electrical tape on the other alluminum tins....
