    Greetings from Croatia (new snuser)

Hi all, I'm glad I found such a nice and informative place, I was lurking for a while until finally decided to write something. I'm new to snus and pretty lonely here where snus is sold legally, but seems no one is buying it. People give me looks when I throw a bag in my mouth like I'm doing drugs or something :? I'm slowly spreading my new addiction to friends who are, just like me, trying to quit smoking - meanwhile, more snus for me to buy

Anyway, the choice here is not tremendous, and since it gets bought rarely I'm afraid snus is sold past expiration date (+ they put warning tags over the label with expiration date on bottom of the can :roll, so for start, instead of purchasing a roll of something, I just bought one can of each available. The choice here goes like this: General original, Catch licorice white, Goteborgs Rape white, Ettan original. I think there is also Roda Lacket and General loose being sold, but I'm sticking to portions at the time being (but I'm definitely open to trying some loose snus).

That being said, I decided to start ordering fresh snus from abroad and found Northerner to be a cheap, fast and a very satisfying shopping experience overall. Anyway, I'm sorry if it annoys you when newbies are opening personal topics for recommendations again and again, but I'd like some expert opinions based on my orders and tastes to date.

What I ordered up to this time (including the ones bought here):

General original, Catch licorice white, Goteborgs Rape white, Ettan original, LD mini original, Probe whiskey, Philip Morris 1847 original, Pall Mall original, Skruf stark original, Lucky Strike original, Gustavus original, Jakobsson's classic, Kronan original, Grovsnus original, Nick and Johny stark

Haven't still tried them all, so here is a short review of ones I did, and a very subjective rating from 1 to 5:

General original - in general, I liked it, but was a bit too peppery - 3,5
Catch licorice white - too much flavour for my taste and too dry - 2,5
Goteborgs Rape white - I'm afraid that I seem to be one of the few here who fail to see what all the fuss is about this snus, it's aromas are simply too much for my taste and it's very dry (although I try to blame white portions for that, like with Catch licorice) - 2
Ettan original - after two portions needed to get used to it, it became my nearly favorite - 4
LD mini original - can't say anything bad about this one, except I think I shoud try it in a regular portion - 3,5
Probe whiskey - best flavoured snus I tried so far, it does remind me of some cheap bourbon, the only objection being bitterness of it's juice from time to time - 3,5
Philip Morris 1847 original - very moist (good thing), but has a little artificial taste every now and then, I think it's a good snus overall - 3
Skruf stark original - well, can't really judge this one, it's got a good buzz, but it was too bitter at times and very dry, don't know if this is due to slightly different pouch material, because I spent it well before expiration date... - 3
Nick and Johny stark - this one was an instant winner for me, great long-lasting buzz and unobtrusive taste, I'm giving it a 4,5 and not a 5 just because I believe there is something even better for me out there..

As you can see, I'm more fond of pure tobacco taste, and the higher nicotine hit it gives me, the better. Also I seem to prefer original portions over white ones, although I haven't tried but two white portion snuses. How do you think I might like those ordered but still unopen, did I go wrong with anything? Any new recommendations based on my ratings? Any recommendations for loose snus maybe?

I will post a short review of the rest once I finish a can, and since I'm enjoying new cans of Ettan and N&J at the moment and only using about 5-7 pouches a day, I think you should have plenty of time for your thoughts

Once again, thank you and sorry for my not so good english and a rather long a boring topic.

I think you will really enjoy the Grov. Some people who enjoy Ettan don't like Grov but I like both in portion and lös. Grov is great with coffee.

The Jakobsson's is a bit different from the rest and has a stronger citrus taste but it is a really good portion and a regular order for me. Gotlandssnus Yellow is similar in flavour but the citrus is less pronounced.

Pall Mall is where I differ from most of the people on the forum. I know everyone raves about it but I found it to be a good solid snus, but not phenomenal. I might throw in a can here or there but it won't be a roll order. I also found the nicotine hit to be weak in comparison to Skruf Original (which I prefer if I were looking for that flavour profile)

GR is overrated in portion form, but in lös it is great as it the flavour is much more subtle. However, if you don't enjoy gin the pronounced taste of juniper berries might not appeal to you.

The Skruf portions tend to be much dryer than original portions made by other brands. Jakobssons and Gotlands Yellow/Grey/Green are also quite dry. IMO both brands sit somewhere between a regular portion and a white portion.

doomood, first, welcome to snuson, I am glad you finally decided to speak up.

2nd, we are NEVER bored with posts like this. As I mentioned to someone else in the past day, I love posts like yours. It just brings me back to those days 2 years ago when snus was all brand new to me. It just makes me smile remembering.

3rd, I spend as much time as I do here cause I want to welcome and help folks just like you.

and 4th, your English is WAY better then my Croatian.

      Now....

It sounds like your tastes are more typical then not. I could never get over the slightly strange, off putting after taste of Philip Morris 1847

A few I would suggest trying on your next order....

Knox...cheap, very good straight traditional tobacco flavor, Pall Mall Regular, now my favorite snus of all, really yummy. Lucky strike, both the regular and whites. Some folks prefer the whites over the regular as the regular can really juice up a lot. Retro Whites is alos a favorite of mine. And be watching for all the reviews of the new V2 thunder. i was able to try some while it was still in testing mode and it was the best snus I ever had.

Again, please don't hesitate to keep posting your reactions to new snus. it is what we are here for and will help the new folks who follow you.

And again, welcome to the forum.

Ps: Knox is excellent as Sagedil said so def throw in a couple of cans next time round..

As for lös I'd suggest ordering

        Ettan (delicious)
Grov (not as good as the portions but still good)
        Knox (a good cheap snus)
        Skruf Stark (nice nick hit)
Gotlandssnus Yellow and Grey (Only order the Grey if you like anise/licorice)
General (a good solid everyday lös)

I know some people have been raving about Granit lös and the LD Red lös but I can't comment on them.

                Hi there doomood! Welcome aboard.

I think from your reviews your tastes are very similar to my own which means you have excellent taste.

If I were you I'd give Roda Lacket and Claq Qui a go - they are fantastic slightly flavoured sweetish snuses - in fact I find the Claq Qui to taste like Nick & Johnny with a strong overtone of dried fruit. Other ones I would give a go are Gotlands Yellow (especially the loose - lots of lovely chocolatey tobacco tones in there).

                Anyway - good luck.

Hi guys, sorry for the delay, been rather busy for a few days back.. I'd like to thank you all for a nice welcome and your input. I don't have enough time to reply to everyone individually so I just want to inform you that I'm slowly writing a new shopping list  based on your recommendations.

I'm having some kind of seasonal flu so I reduced my snus intake lately, but I've been through a little more than half of can of Jakobsson's original and I must say I'm a little disappointed - it's almost like Goteborgs Rape to me, i.e. - don't like it I give it a 2,5 just because it's not white portion and therefore not too harsh on my gums..

But I guess all my ratings will change over time, based on experiences I read here..

Anyway, I will keep you informed now when I know n00b posts don't bother you much

Cheers and thanks for making my new addiction more interesting!

LOL, now I KNOW our tastes are similar.

I too never liked Jakobsson's original. I know I was supposed to, but I just didn't. I still have a can in my freezer that has probably been there for 5 months, and I just can't seem to be able to make myself open it.

When you are feeling better, tell us what you ARE liking!!

I have been using this site for translation:

                          http://www.translation-guide.com/fre...ranslators.php

Very nice site, it translate 27 languages to and from English in an intuative and almost real-time fashion. Oops, need to translate something quickly to swedish:

Svensk snus är läcker (Swedish snus is delicious)
