Already made one purchase.. need to know what to try

Here's a little background on myself (I'm sure you could care less, lol, but would love to know what to try based on it). I chewed tobacco for about a year and a half, maybe two years. Started off with Skoal Mint, stayed with that for a while, went to Wintergreen, then switched to Kodiak Wintergreen and Ice (mint), then finally to Grizzly Wintergreen (so cheap, so good haha). I did like the Straight flavors, just didn't buy them too often.

Now what I want to know is, based on what I normally like, what should I try out? I already purchased the Swedish Match Tasting Kit WHITE Large (8 cans) from buysnus, but it has yet to arrive (no worries, hasn't been too long, not complaining). So I would like to try loose, as I loved long cut opposed to pouches for chew. I know I'm going to try the Offroad American Wintergreen Long Cut... just to bring back the memories... but any other sugguestions? Almost forgot to add... no Licorice flavored stuff... I saw there's some out there, and nooo thank you, haha.

I'm not a loose guy, so will let others chime in. But any of the standard traditional type's should be first on your list. it isn't about what you used to use, it is about trying snus and learning if you like that, independent of anything you ever had before.

Look at the top 5 thread that is stickied. You will start to see a lot of consistency. Some brands will keep showing up more than others. Start there.

Your more of a mintier person, like myself. The offroad wintergreen has a taste just like grizzly's. In fact, when i put in my first pouch of the offroad, grizzly wintergreen is the first thing that popped in my head.

I haven't tried too many other mint-like snus's yet. The next closest thing to mint I've tried would be Catch Eucalyptus/Menthol, but that's got less of a mint taste than offroad and more of a Halls cough drop menthol (which I like). The Catch is nice because the menthol gives you the immediate satisfaction of feeling something there before the nic starts flowing. It almost burns a little bit when you first put it in.

Awesome! Grizzly had a great taste to me, so looks like I'll order a few cans of the Offroad Wintergreen. Have you tried the Long Cut of it.. or the los? I'd like to see how that is as well for when I'm just sitting at home.

And thanks for the recommendation There just so happens to be a can of Catch in my sample box, haha. Burn has never bothered me. It kinda was nice.. I knew something was there and working, lol.

As far as mint offerings, here's my input:

Offroad Wintergreen Longcut: I got a 5-pack of the OR Longcut Wintergreen Loose by mistake. I used up all 5 cans. I did a nice big pinch every morning in my lower lip. It was a lot like Grizzly or Kodiak wintergreen dip, except I didn't have to spit as much, and the consistency was slightly different. I personally enjoyed it and it was nice to get that dip sensation and extra nic in the mornings.

Offroad Icemint: This loose tastes like mint. It's kind of like Timberwolf mint, except imagine that without all the overly artificial sweetenings. Has a bit of a tingle to it as well. Not one of my personal favorites, but you might want to throw a can into your order.

General Wintergreen: This offers a good flavor that lasts awhile, but that only comes in portions.

Elixyr Peppermint: I do not think it likely that you would like Elixyr Peppermint (portion only) very much. I received a free sample can and didn't use the whole thing. I use portions when I go to sleep, and this was the only snus I've ever gotten rid of.

If you're interested in loose, try all of them that sound good to you.

I started off on loose with Skruf, General, Roda Lacket, and Goteborg's Rape, as well as Phantom Blue.

My favorites ended up being Roda Lacket, General, and Gotland Anis (you wouldn't like it if you don't like licorice) for a while. However, my favorites have settled on Phantom Classic and Offroad Cranberry. If you like cranberry at all I highly recommend it. It is mild and not overly sweet, with a pleasant tobacco taste underneath. The Phantom is basically the V2 Generalsnus brand, comparable to General, Granit, and the other tobacco+pepper+citrus flavors. Skruf stark loose is great for a morning nic hit with 11mg/g, and the flavor is rose and bergamot.

I'd make sure to give General loose a shot. It's kind of a benchmark snus and is the best-selling brand in Sweden. Roda Lacket is probably the easiest for a beginner to hand bake. Once you get it down it's easy and provides a fun pre-snus ritual.

Most of all, explore, enjoy, and share your experiences with us!

          Cheers!

            Awesome, thanks for the advice!

I figured I'd order some more from getsnus while waiting for my buysnus order to arrive.

            I went with:
Offroad Wintergreen - Long cut and Portions (for when I'm at work)
Figure if it's like Grizz or Kodiak, can't go wrong.

Offroad Cranberry Loose - You sold me on this one. Love cranberry juice... so hey, why not haha

General Onyx White Portions - Heard good stuff about these... so threw one in... even though it was $4

General Loose and Ettan Loose... and then my mystery can of course

I also threw in a Prismaster, just in case I'm an absolute retard at baking a pris lol.

And I'm going to take sage's word of advice... just trying things out and learning if I like them.

Awesome, enjoy. And be sure to let us know how it goes.

One tip with the cranberry. When I tried it at first, I couldn't taste the cranberry. On my second pris I was able to taste it.

Definitely. I'll let you know which one I pop open first.

Do you suggest having more than one can open at a time? Because if I use this like I did chew, I only had one pinch a day... MAYBE two... but seeing how snus is far less harmful, I may do more. So I don't want any to go stale on me.

And you guys will for sure be the first to know how my first snus goes

My general rule is that if I am gonna use it up within 3 or 4 days, I just leave it out. Cans that are open but I use more sparingly are in the refrigerator, and my unopened cans are in the freezer.

When i first started using, I tried to never have more than one or two open. then I went through a phase where I had like 9 or 10 open, that was always a bit messy. Now, two years later, I have my 2 or 3 I use throughout the day. My Elyxr and Triumph in the refrigerator which I use about 1 or 2 a day. And always something strong in the refrigerator as well, maybe 3 or 4 a day max.

I have had snus that was open in the refrigerator, fallen behind something for 6 months. It was fine. As good as fresh?? Of course not, you could tel it was a bit stale, but still way better than nothing!!

So, to answer your question, feel free to open up a few more. But do focus on finishing a can eventually before you open up too much.

Just a heads up the Offroad Longcut tastes super bland in terms of flavor. I still love it though. Nothing like packing a lip of snus

FYI, my opinion on the OR wintergreen was from the portion stand point. I have yet to try any loose produce, but I have 3 cans waiting in my freezer.

On the open can topic: Here's what I did. When i opened a can, I'd have maybe 3 or 4 portions (or pris's i suppose). If I didn't like it, I'd stuff it back in the freezer and try it again maybe a week later. I think i had 4 cans open at one point in time. I kept the ones I wasn't sure about in the freezer and would just take one out and let it 'thaw' for a few minutes before putting it in and freezing my mouth, hehe. I kept the ones I was using on a regular basis (always 2 cans open) in the fridge when i got home from work and just grabbed one when i wanted one.
