    Camel gone Nationwide? (US)

    ~~
So, I go to the gas station a few days ago and what do I see? A "Camel SNUS. Sold Cold" sign on the front door. I go inside and, sure enough, they got about a foot and half wide snus fridge sitting smack dab in the middle of their cigarette shelve. I go to another gas station after work and BAM same thing.

So I guess this stuff is out of test markets and on it's way to the mainstream huh? Cashier said it would be in at the end of this month, or end of next month. Know what's retarded though? None of the cashiers I asked had any freakin clue what the hell SNUS even was. They're gonna have a hard time selling this stuff when absolutely no one has any idea what it is. Well, except for us lucky ones.

I could personally care less if the Camel product itself tanks. I just want to see snus to grab hold here so the possibility of getting some of the real stuff here increases.

Philip Morris USA and R.J. Reynolds educate retailers about their new products with pamphlets, but rarely anyone reads them. I went to buy a can of Camel Mellow to see what its like, and the cashier asked me three times to repeat what I wanted! Most people think snus is some kind of sex toy.

I don't know about Nationwide, but I'd say in major cities in each state.... or something close to that.

I have seen one gas station with the same exact sign, exact it says coming soon... and it's been there for about 2 months. To be honest that's how I heard of snus. I saw the no spit ad... and figured I should read up on it.. then learned that it wasn't some brand new thing.

But anyway, yeah not every place is carrying it... only a few select ones.
Hell, every smoke shop I've been to doesn't even carry snus.

        Camel Mellow is......wellll.....Mellow.

Too mellow, in my opinion. Awfully(and artificially)sweet, and tastes a bit like Captain Black Gold pipe tobacco. That's actually the first thing that popped into my head when the flavor finally did come.

If you register at the RJR website, they'll send you a coupon for a free can. I'd actually recommend going that route, rather than paying for it.

Thanks for the tip spirit. I've heard the camel stuff isn't that good and didn't want to pay for it to check out. I'll go look for that coupon.

I tried the Camel snus. it was orange/citrus flavored. Holy crap, it was disgusting. I like flavor, but this tasted like a creamsicle was stuck in my lip.

I was preaching the good news about snus to one of my many coworkers who dip and he mentioned a local convenience store was carrying the Camel snus cans for $1 ea. I had already read enough to know it was not real snus but I sprang for a couple of cans just to try it. Frost was the only flavor they had.

I did not mind the flavor, though it is certainly sweeter than real snus. My objection is the apparent total lack of any nicotine whatsoever. I doubt shoving all fifteen pouches in at once would have been sufficient. The little metal tins are kinda cool though

Someone at work told me they saw a pamphlet at 7-11 the other day mentioning Camel snus. It did not really mention exactly when they were going to get it. I'm going to ask the next time I go, but I doubt any of the employees know/care.

It'll be nice to have a backup, even if it is a rather weak (and expensive) backup.

Frost is the only flavor on any of the in-store displays by me. The one station already had it listed for 3.98 a can here in Wisconsin. Which is cheaper than most cigarettes and dip. We got hit with a 1 dollar + tobacco tax increase last january. Average cig pack is around 5 bucks or more for name brands.

And this isn't just major cities. I'm stateline halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee. So even us out in the sticks are seeing it, hehe.

Well, I went to a 7-11 tonight and asked about it: they had a snus sign right on the door.......just what I figured; nobody even knew what it was, and it wasn't in stock yet. No definitive dates, either. :?

On Camel's snus site they have store locations listed, but the retailers are listed as "APRO" and then a store number. The 7-11 I went to was not listed; AM-PM's maybe? The site says they should already have the stuff, so I'm going to have to do a little more checking...
