If I remember right, this is the one that actually reminded me of pumpernickel...not a fan of it in bread, but for some reason it was ok in the snus. Go figure! :P
Tastes like rye bread (or pumpernickel bread) with loads of caraway seeds to me. Curiously, I love pumpernickel and rye but struggled to finish my tin of Grov Black...
As I mentioned above, this is an no more than 2 -3 a day snus for me. NOT something I would want all day. But when taken as a special treat, quite good.
After trying about 16 different kinds of snus Grov Black is actually my favorite. My day consists of alternating between Grov Black, Onyx, Nick and Johnny, and Claq Qui. Grov is the one i use the most of i usually use about 5 to 6 portions a day and usually 3 of those are Grov. Onyx comes in second. These just go so well with a Dr. Pepper or Rootbeer its ridiculous. I just ordered some of the Nick and Johnny Black from Northerner I can't wait. Id rather use a sterk for 2 hours and only use 5 to 6 a day then have to chain regular portions it seems like more bang for my buck. (especially with the black on black from getsnus) Only other snus i use now that isn't a sterk is the Northerner energy snus. Which is AMAZING in the morning.
This actually seems to be the general consensus at my work too. I have 6 employees i buy snus for and all of them have tried all the ones i have and they go through the same rotation i do. (a few favor Nick and Johnny but thats understandable)
I think everyone should give this snus a try or maybe wait a few months and try it again. At first i didn't like it also but after waiting a month i tried it again and i loved it. It has withstood about 3 months of use consistently. Only advice i would give is sometimes out of nowhere in a can i get a bad one. Seems to happen with alot of the snus i use. (Claq Qui being the worst for this.) So don't knock it from the first one.
perfect with scotch or bourbon. probably my favorite snus, but i use it sparingly due to its rich, overwhelming flavor. i do not want to burn this snus out, ever.
I might try it again later, to confirm my 1st impression, or change my mind.... though I think it will be a confirmation... but I don't know, I may chicken out, I really didn't like it, I think it's the vanilla, and maybe licorice, that numbs my mouth and have a lingering aftertaste, that I didn't find pleasing.
But if anyone likes it, great. We all have our own tastes.

You said the LD Black made your mouth feel numb, too. I know you don't like the Gots anise. Did it do the same thing?
FWIW so far I like Grov black and Gots anise, and love LD black.
I don't remember if the Gots anis gave me that effect or not. LD Black does give me some initial mouth numbness, but it tappers off and isn't bad. Has a bit of a sweet center.
