Very well written article. I've always enjoyed your articles, they're actually what got me to pull the trigger on ordering snus. Haven't regretted it since.
Curious, what's going on with Altria in Virginia?

As to Altria and taxes, its a pretty complex story and I'm working on an article about it. I hate to spoil it with a couple of sentences, but in a nutshell, Altria is trying to have snus taxed by weight. Marlboro snus has 12 portions @ 0.6 grams each or 7.2 grams. Most Swedish/Nordic snus has 24 portions @ 1.0 grams each or 24 grams. This means Swedish/Nordic snus would be taxed at almost 3 times the rate of Marlboro snus; effectively pricing it out of the mainstream/new snus user market.

One other curious point I have yet to dig into but is related: The major snus producing US Tobacco companies are SUPPORTING the FDA taking regulatory control of tobacco products. Why would they do that? Aside from banning cigarettes, what does the FDA have planned for snus and smokeless tobacco? Why would Big American Tobacco support FDA regulation? All I know now is that it can't be good for us.
