    New to Snus

I have recently tried Camel Snus and have to say it was not bad but am looking at purchasing some off of buysnus.com. Can anyone give me some advice on what are the best to try? I have smoked on an average of 1 pack per day for the last couple of years and have dipped Skoal on and off from the last 10 years. Any advice would be helpful.

Welcome to the wide world of snus! I too started with Camel snus. I went from that straight to loose snus. If you don't like the idea of loose, there are regular portions, strong portions, mini portions, and white portions (they juice less, come on less strong, and last a bit longer for some people).

I recommend trying some flavors that sound interesting, as well as some of the traditional flavors such as General. Maybe order 10 cans that look good, then you can start getting a feel for your tastes. If you like Camel frost, I'd try General Wintergreen if you want to do portions.

My personal favorites are Phantom Classic and Offroad Cranberry. I also like General and Roda Lacket a lot.

I'd look at the Top 5 thread as well. It's really fun to try a bunch of different kinds and figure out your tastes.

One thing about Swedish Snus is that it has more nicotine than Camel, which is something I (as a former smoker) liked a lot. One thing that helped me was to get some normal brands and some strong ones for the mornings and for bad cravings. Good luck!

Yeah, if you want the average of all of our suggestions, all at once, check out the thread titled "So I tallyed up all the mentions in the top 5 sticky thread".

That was a great post, btw. Some serious effort and time went into that. What a great tool for new snusers! And the rest of us too

I started off with the Swedish Match portion variety box. For someone having never tasted Swedish snus, it's a good place to start.

                    Have fun!

I've been hooked on Snus (which is much better than the two packs a day I used to smoke) for over 6 months now, and it's been fun. I started out with a sample box (the big one from Northener) and then just started buying darn near everything available. Some I didn't care for and are now in my freezer awaiting a second chance. Which is the weird thing... My favorites changed constantly and even the varieties I thought were terrible at first would all of a sudden taste great. 1847 and Lucky Strike would fall in that category for me. I've since settled into buying bulk Kronan White and Tre Ankare Minis as my staples, but I'm sure that will change in time as well.
I think more importantly than finding your brand(s) though, is finding out what type(s) you like best. Los - Which is loose time consuming, messy, a bit of an art, and not for me. Regular portions - Which are in a little pouch, strong at first, fade fairly fast, can be a bit harsh (IMHO) and again no for me. Or... Vit Portion - Which is a "white" portion which lasts longer, have less initial kick, and to me are the champagne of Snus.
So, my suggestion is to find out which types you like first (the Northerner big box is great for this, but I don't think it has any LOS) and then just start building a little collection to experiment with. You'll soon find there are subtle and sometimes not so subtle differences that make different varieties better for different situations. Ettan Vit for instance tastes especially good to me in the morning and after meals, while Lucky Strike seems to go good with a few beers.

Thanks for the advice. I purchased the sample box from Northener and am waiting for it to arrive.
