    Why snus?

So, the wife asks: "why do so many of these American guys use snus instead of chew?" I couldn`t really answer her question. No spitting, no sugar and different taste were the only things that came to mind. What do you guys think?

I switched because it is easy to get here in Germany. Now I won`t go back.

Lower TSNA levels than dip, no spitting required, and it's tasty!

Well, I'm not a guy, but I'll put my .02 in...

There are a few reasons that I have turned to snus:
Being an ex-cigarette smoker, I found that snus is less expensive, and more convenient. There are so many places now that you CAN'T smoke, but you can snus anywhere.
I never did try chew.. the whole idea of carrying around a bottle and spitting in it seems less convenient (and more disgusting) than cigarette smoking was.

I didn't really switch. I quit smoking, and whenever I quit my mind would trick me into finding a friendlier alternative. In the past I got into hookahs and pipes. Last time it was snus. The fact that it's healthier, much less expensive, has as much if not more nicotine, is more socially acceptable, can be used anywhere, tastes good, requires no spitting, gives me a further connection to my motherland, and has a support community like this one are all reasons I've decided to keep it.

No spitting, and the flavors are generally more refined.

No spitting. I dipped Copenhagen for 15 years, I got bad gum recession on my left front tooth. I never liked the any of the flavored dips. With snus I can switch sides of my mouth, and lessen the damage if any. Plus I like the salt, instead of sugar. Plus with Cope I'd use a can and half in a day. With snus I use maybe half a can, even less with loose. Smaller amounts give as much or more nicotine.

Ditto to what everyone said AND...

those nice looking snus cans which, if needed, can be used as holders for other things like paper clips, meds, etc. Snus is soooo practical.

I started snus to stop smoking, and because it's discreet. No spitting, no lip deformity or speech impediment. I keep using snus because I like the taste, and it provides a nice steady flow of nicotine.

As someone who instinctively disagrees with anything anyone says, I like getting my nic in a different way than everyone else. (Can you believe a prick like me could find a girl who would like me enough to marry me?) But seriously, I like not spitting, and I dip about half to 3/4 of a can of Cope a day if I don't have any snus, but with snus I only use 1/4 to 1/3 of a can of loose a day.

No need for more reason than that.

Chew is widely frowned upon around these parts, at least by most ladies I know. There's also the social aspect; I can use without anyone knowing, or, in tobacco-friendly crowds, I can invoke some euro-cool by telling people about this "new" product from Sweden.

Then there's the price thing. Importing tobacco probably won't be noticed by the state officials, and anyway, as I read my own state's code, snus doesn't seem to be included. (Cigarettes, cigars, smoking tobacco generally, snuff, chew, etc etc, but nothing about this kind of snus. Narrow reading, I know, but they went to all the trouble of listing all those other kinds of tobacco, so they must have meant to exclude snus, right?)

I whole-heartedly agree with all of the above posts. HOWEVER, the best reason to snus is that its a tobacco product that you can actually recycle........ as noted in the following link...........

                        http://www.snuson.com/viewtopic.php?...er=asc&start=0
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I killed because they were annoying......

I've been wrong lots of times.  Lots of times I've thought I was wrong only to find out that I was right in the beginning.

Increasing restrictions on where and when people can smoke is driving many smokers to find alternatives. Dip and chewing tobacco have a negative stereotype, especially in areas where use of these products is less common. In the south and midwest of the USA smokeless tobacco use is fairly common and I know doctors, lawyers, and plenty of professionals who use it; but they would never have a spittoon sitting on their desk.

I used dip for 20 years. I switched for the lower TSNA levels. The ability to use it discreetly with no spitting is another huge plus for me. And now that I am adjusted to the flavor of snus, dip is ruined for me and I doubt I will ever go back.

First, snus is probably saving me from a doomed fate of lung complications.

                            Secondly, it gives me nicotine.

Thirdly, it does more than give me nicotine. When I used cigarettes, I used them for the nicotine and only thought that they were pleasurable. Snus is more of a hobby. It actually tastes good, comes in a variety of flavors and types, and has subtleties to it that are reminiscent of how enthusiasts describe tea or wine.

Fourth, it has saved me money (no matter where I order it from).
