    Made a mistake

Hello all - long time lurker, first time poster. I recently quit smoking and after the first couple days I was on the verge of relapse. I went into a convenience store where I almost bought some dip (which I hate but hoped it might help curb the cravings) and the guy behind the counter suggested some Camel snus. I got some and loved it.

I went home and did some research and saw tons of people cussing the Camel snus and singing praises for the REAL Swedish snus. Today I found a local cigar shop that sold General so I picked up two cans each of the white portion and the original portion.

I can't stand them. They're just not for me. I hope I'm not breaking the forum rules by asking but since no one I know wants them I was hoping to let them go to anyone here that might be interested.

I opened up a can of each to try them but have only tried 3-4. The other two cans are still sealed. If you're interested let me know and we can work something out. Again, I apologize if this is against the rules.

    Thanks in advance

Wow that was quick. What would you recommend? I'm not too into the mint one but I really like the "Mellow" flavor.

It takes a couple of weeks before your mind associates the taste of snus with the nicotine you are craving. Stick with it a little while and you will probably find your previous nicotine delivery system seems nasty and snus is all you want.

Welcome aboard and congo rats on not smoking!

First, the upside. If you like Camel snus, it's not a big deal. I don't think any of us are elitest enough to look down on you for liking what you like. Hell, I married my wife! (da dum dum!) (just kidding hunny, you know I love you) (Safety line, ya never know :P)

In regards to flavor, well, other than some domestic brands, there just isn't anything like Camel as far as sweetness or other tastes.

I started on Camel and move on to Triumph (another domestic brand although it is made by Swedish Match who makes General) it's just sweeter than normal Swedish snus. Currently I would say that my favorites are Goteborgs Rape #2. It's a mildly (Very mild)
sweet herby berry-ish flavor that to me is just pure heaven to me.

If I am not mistaken I think that Triumph is sold in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area but I could be mistaken. Either way, it can be purchased online. I like the original myself.

Typical Snus is a salty earthy tobacco-y product so if you don't like that, you don't like it. No harm no foul. There are other types of snus out there to try.

I would recommend the Wise (now called Oomph) brand. they sell a citrus / menthol and a licorice / lemon flavor one. They are available on www.northerner.com and are not like typical snus. They are slightly sweet with a discrete size and flavor but do well for the nicotine hit.

There are also some other domestic brands that aren't too bad like Nordic. They have a portion and a loose brand and while they are sweet, they are not too bad at all if you like that.

Just remember that snusing according to most research is anywhere from 100 to 1000 times less harmfull than smoking and in the long run is much much cheaper.

Again, welcome aboard and good luck

          -Ainkor

i would reccomend ettan for a mellow tobacco flavor..it goes well with coffee...

also any of the starter boxes rom northerner would be a good starting point.you just have to find your preferences

              Welcome to the forum Dunno

Many people who came to Swrdish snus via Camel had you same rection at first. Most, but not all, slowly came to love the Swedish stuff. My best advice is to keep using them for a few days and see if your tastes start to adjust.

As for others you can try, you would have to order either via Buysnus or Northerner. LD Black is a licorice flavored snus. Not as sweet as the camel, but no real tobacco taste. Probe Whiskey is super sweet. Some love, others don't care fo. the Mocca anise and Mocca Pomeranian are really good, and are minis so have about as much nicotine as the Camel.

I hope you leep trying to adjust to the Swedish snus. As I said, mst people, even when tey hated it at first, did come to love it. But not everybody, maybe it isn't for you.

And if you can find the Triumph, it is super yummy, I know you would love that.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I may have to just go online and try out a variety to see what I like. I think I'm liking the sweeter taste of the Camel and the General is very different.

Hopefully I'll find something good. All of my buddies smoke and even though it hasn't been that long since my last cigarette I can't stand the smell. Plus, the small pouches allow me to enjoy this horrible addiction anytime and anywhere without anyone around me knowing!

                Long live the Swedes!

There's a huge variety of of Swedish snus flavors out there, ranging from heavy with tobacco notes to just about flavorless. A tin of General minis came with my very first sampler order, and initially I found them to be overly salty, and perhaps even 'musty' in taste. I expected that I'd just keep them around for some emergency when I ran out of the Catch Eucalyptus and other minty/floral snus I was liking.

I wasn't a menthol smoker, but I'd never used oral tobacco before, and I think I initially associated the taste with the cigarette tobacco I've inadvertantly swallowed in the past.

Less than a month later and my taste in snus taste has taken a 180 degree turn. General isn't my favorite, but I can definitely understand why most Swedisgh snus users use General, and only General, for years. Its got a complex maple syrup, black pepper and citrus taste that's really best after about 20-30 minutes.

I still plan on keeping the Catch Eucalyptus, Goteborg Rape, Skruf Transbar, Probe Whiskey, even Elixyr Power (not as bad as others here suggest) around for variety, but I think my mainstays will be Skruf Original and General.

Even the Wise portions, which have no discernable tobacco flavor, have their place in office settings. To be honest the only snus I've tried with no redeeming properties for me are the licorice/anise flavored tins in the sampler pack and Nick & Johnny East, which sounded like a curry flavored snus in the description, but really just tastes (to me) of stale soy sauce.

Hm. Well, first off being that it's so different than the Camel (which I wasn't expecting) it was a bit off-putting. It's very strong and salty and just tastes terrible to me. I tried it 3 or 4 times forgetting how much I didn't like it. To be fair, I didn't leave it in for very long, and apparently it gets better. I guess I'll give it another shot.

I do like that it fits better under my lip and it's less juicy so it's not like the flavor is overwhelming my mouth.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you have many years of smoking numbing out your taste buds. The camel stuff is incredibly sweet and overly flavored which makes it taste great on numb taste buds.

After a while without smoking and a while using snus, the saltiness goes away and you start to notice all the subtleties.

Might I suggest that you go for some of the heavier flavored varieties: Offroad Cranberry, American Wintergreen, Oden's cinnamon. Those have great flavors to start with.

Once your tastes start to come back (you will notice this while eating, etc) then start branching out into some of the more traditional flavors.

Some others that are more sweet are the Mocca varieties, the catch varieties, all of the Offroad flavored varieties. Jakobssons icefruit has a cool minty feel with a subtle undertone that reminds me of wrigle'ys juicy fruit gum (not really my bag, but many love it).

And hey, if you prefer camel, then use camel! We are not going to put you down for it. I actually quite like camel spice (i think it has been renamed smooth?).

Anyways, welcome to Snuson my friend! Glad to have ya.

This is far and away the most helpful and responsive forum I've participated it. You guys are great.

Ok so to recap, I need to check out:

Mocca Pomegranate (not sure what anise tastes like, I'll try that later)
Triumph (which I haven't yet found online)
                          Probe Whiskey
                          Jakobssons Icefruit
                          Offroad

I think this should be a good test market for me.

This is already becoming apparent, at least as far as smell goes. I feel like I've been given a new nose. Can't wait for the new tongue.

Anise is anise seed (think jagermeister, black licorice, thise little pastel candies w/ a seed in the middle)

I'm not a black licorice fan. If you dont like the afformentioned flavors, I'd steer clear of anise/licorice varieties

                              anise tastes like licorice.
