Snus Noob reviews and a question or two.

i got into snus a couple months ago after talking to an american that lives in sweden on a messageboard i'm on. the thread was about kinds of snuf, nasal and oral. he hipped me to snus, and it really appealed to me. On my first order to northerner i ordered 6 different tins of portions.

Romeo Y Jullitta- this was not bad at all. Really nice looking tin and nice flavor. my only complaint is that it was advertised as a natural cuban tobacco flavor, but there was some anise seed flavor in there.

Onyx- I liked this a lot too. the outside packaging is really nice too, but when i opened it and saw the black packets all fanned out, that really sealed the deal. the flavor was nice too. although the flavor of the pouch itself seemed way too noticeable. i also liked how the portions were packed in a wedge shape. nice fit under the lip. i will probably order this again.

Lucky Strike-again, the tin itself is really cool looking. i had no complaints at all about the flavor, although it was nothing too special.

Gottenborgs Rape'-This was the first one I opened. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but this may have been because it was the first thing i tried. I put it back in the fridge and had some later and liked it more. One of the main reasons i ordered it was that i thought it would be amusing to have a product with "rape" in the name. "care for a bit of rape?". Sophomoric humor aside, it was good stuff.

Mocca mandarin minis- I really have nothing good to say about this. I figured i should try at least one strongly "flavored" snus. The taste wasn't bad, but it was nothing i'd order again. And the "mini" thing was the worst part. Such a small portion, kinda pointless.

Nick & Johnny-This was probably my favorite. Nice flavor, and nice nicotine buzz. The initial flavor is a bit much at first, but once it's been in the lip for awhile and mellows, it's downright delicious. I also think it's funny that the guy on the cap looks like old school Lou Reed.

So, after that order i placed a few more, mostly for Nick & Johnny.
    Also, i tried...

Roda Lacket-this was a winner too. I will probably order this again, but N&J will be my mainstay.

Kardus-This was my first loose snus that I tried. I liked the flavor, but the pris rolling took awhile to master. It was especially hard when the tin was full and snus would overflow out the sides when I dipped in. Very messy. Towards the end of the tin i got better at the packing and rolling. Perhaps in the future i may order an icetool, but we will have to see. will probably try this again.

    a question

As far as ease of pris-rolling goes, where does Kardus rate? What is the easiest loose to roll?

Well not having used Kardus, I can't speek to that. I can, however, tell you that in my experience, the finer the snus the easier it forms. Roda forms really well, as does Probe. There is a trade off with this I have found though. The finer stuff forms easier, but falls apart and turns to mud faster in my experience.

From what I've heard from others, Kardus is by far the worst snus for prilla-rolling. I've ordered a can recently and will see for myself.

Röda Lacket is maybe the best snus for making a prilla, because it is very fine ground. For me, also Probe Whiskey is a winner, though more coarse ground.

      Cheers!

Yes, Kardus is long-cut, rather like american tobaccos (cope, etc) so it doesn't "roll", per se, into a prilla like the finer stuff, but it doesn't really fall apart so much either. I find that Kardus works best with a half-commando method of roughly making something pris-like but not fussing too much with it. Most other snus varieties are much easier to make prillas with by comparison. The only other ones I can think of which are a bit fussy for making a pris are Landströms and Gellivare, which are both quite coarse, and possibly Diplomat.

Also, if you like Nick & Johnny you might want to try Skruf Stark and Strongcut. They are more or less on equal footing in terms of being strong snuses and are all quite good. If you like Onyx, then normal non-fancy General might also be to your tastes. The taste is similar to Onyx, but not quite as strong....and it's cheaper.

Right - as for Göteborgs Rapé, it may help you to pronounce it with the 'é' as it should be...like the french "Rap-ay". It will save you the social faux-pas of bringing up forced copulation and, at the same time, may give you that bit of worldly mystique

Hi all, here is what I've found.Have not recieved my icetool yet.But to look at the bright side.I have become really good at baking a pris. With the Nick & Johnny it's easy to bake and holds together very well and last along time.Skruf stark..same easy to make pris holds well and last long.At first was not happy with nick kick, but now it is growing on me.Like it alot.General..easy to make pris and it holds well, not as much nick but love the taste.Kronan..mmmm..Have worked it slow and quick, can make a pris but after about 30 minutes it breaks up.Love the taste but same thing 30 minutes it seems to turn bitter on me.Pouch..Lucky Strike in ice box not tried yet.Pouch...Goteborgs Rape #2.Love the taste.Last long with pretty good nick kick.Maybe it's the cloudberry that gives it that flavor.Told that it grows in Sweden and UK.I do get a little of a bitter taste but also sweet. Now if they would just send me alot of jars of cloudberry jam and my Icetool. All will be forgiven

Kardus can be a pain to roll although it stays together very well under the lip. Filling an icetool with it can be a little messy but the finished prilla is very good. I would use kardus everyday if I had the cash

I found the same thing as other; roda, probe, general, ettan are all easy to roll
