Mellow hasn't come to the Dallas area yet because they have so much expired/expiring Original, Spice and Frost left. They are giving it away when you buy a pack of Camel cigarettes. I guess when they run out, Mellow will creep into the market. Wonder how long before its all expired?

I have some Camel Mellow coming in from an unnamed source. I'm terrified to try it but I just have to know if they learned from any of the mistakes of the last offering or is this just a different color 0.6 grams of who knows what.

I find it to be okay. I also have a no tax special at the local 7-11 store. it makes it real cheap.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread! Thanks for the offer, but I walked into the store tonight and I finally saw that little fridge with something in it for once.

I decided to try the Mellow.....once I opened the tin, it was actually a very pleasant smell; somewhat like a cross between fresh cigarette or cigar tobacco. I put a portion in, and honestly, I didn't find it overly sweet at all. I was prepared for it to taste like nasty Catch or something. Nic hit is very weak, though.

All in all, not a bad backup for when I run out of the real stuff.

Camel Mellow can be tasty. I mean, this is not swedish snus, this is American Bastardized snus. Like what the French did to Latin. What America did to beer. Now Camel is reinventing the snus for average joe americans. Not for swedish snus users. Very heavy on the sweetener, I'd say its either Xylitol (best bet) or Saccharin. Regardless, I have little doubt that Camel does attempt to maintain much of the integrity of process that swedish snus, for instance this stuff has to be pastuerized, otherwise people using it (and swallowing, it is advertised as spitless) would be throwing up everywhere. The flavor is still too fake, its like candy. This stuff surely has 8mg of nicotine in it, probably lower pH than the General. This results in less nicotine kick, the higher the pH, the quicker it is absorbed into the bloodstream. (note: this is based on my tastebuds and reasoning, i am by no means an expert.)

For a while, here in podunk Kennewick, WA we had Camel Snus on sale buy a pack of Pall Malls, Camels or Winstons get a free can (definitely aimed at smokers, not other oral tobacco users). This Camel Snit is 5.79 per can PLUS 8.3% sales tax. yikes. when people would enter my store and buy the cigs, i'd ask them if they wanted a free can of snus. if they said no, i'd ring it in anyway, use the coupon, and pocket the can. I had quite a stash of mellow and frost, and it kept me going between orders (i work at a gas station, i am poor). Still a pack of pall malls was 4.09+tax at the time, a buck seventy less than the tin of snus.

One more anectdote, I had a guy come in trying to buy Skoal Citrus, he was 25 and disclosed that he was chewing to quit smoking. I gave him the TSNA dealio and asked if he'd snussed. He said no, but was willing to try. I gave him a pouch of General Onyx and asked how he liked it. He said he loved it, and wanted to buy it instead of the Skoal (victory!). Unfortunately i had to say no, refer him to premiumsnus (my place until i joined here and found out about northerner) and sold him both a Camel Mellow and Camel Frost. The goal of this anectode is this: Swedish Match, I live in Podunk nowhere and people here like your products. You should expand this stuff into America en force. It would save lives and give people a much more enjoyable and less expensive tobacco product compared to Camel Snus, other smokeless tobacco and cigarettes.

What I find strange is that they even bother to keep it in a fridge/cooler. It says right on the tin that it does not have to be refrigerated after opening; I don't see why it would have to be beforehand. :?

When I bought the tin, there was a guy shooting the shit with the clerk at the time; he showed me the tin he had just bought and told me it tasted fairly decent when I asked him about it. Turns out he was from Stockholm. 8) I showed him the tin of Pall Mall whites I had with me and offered him one....he was surprised that I had the real stuff; he didn't know you could order it online.

$3.89 at 7-Eleven here in Kansas City (Overland Park, actually). I preferred Mellow -- the Frost has a bit of a toothpaste quality -- but after a few weeks of Swedish varieties, the Camel variants are almost overpoweringly sweet. The shape and proportions of the portions tuck away nicely in the lip, at least for me. The flavor lasts quite a while, which I suspect is due to artificial ingredients.

I've told a few of my smoker friends who I know wouldn't be comfortable with mail order about Camel Mellow. Just the ones who may be looking to quit smoking as the price is a bit too much at over $5 a can to be a cheaper alternative. I tell them that if they can tolerate the really strong artificial sweetener it is worth looking into. It wasn’t so good for me though. It does not agree with my stomach at all. That is pretty bad since when I was in the military we would dip instead of smoke during an exercise and I could swallow that with no problem while stuck with a gas mask on.

Now that I've almost finished the tin, I can honestly say that it's actually pretty good. The only thing that kills it is the straight nasty sweetness. Funny....I start to really notice it after about a half-hour, which is when you are supposed to spit the portion out according to the back of the tin.

Oh, and the premium price for 15 measly fooking portions......yeah that sucks, too.

The corner gas station here has it fairly cheap at $3 something. I'm not an all day snuser, so 15 pouches would last me about a week. I'd like to keep my snus usage about like that. Maybe I'm playing with fire? But also as I said in another thread, if these Camels were a 1/3 the sweetness they are, I think they'd rock, as I liked the flavor, or I did. With the Swedish I've been doing now, I'm not sure how I'd like it now, but I have an aversion to try it again, cuz it was just too sweet, even before I tried Swedish.

I came to snusing by trying it from a Norwegian buddy a long time ago but picked up a tin of camel mellow 2 months ago. This lead me to searching for more info and ending up here.
My review: Camel sucks. It is $5 after state taxes and leaves you unsatisfied. The flavor isn't that bad but definitely tastes artificial. The things that would prevent me from buying American snus are value, doesn't taste right, and not knowing what you're consuming.
The only thing I like about this snus is that it lead me to finding out about ordering swedish snus online.
