First ever portion gives me Nausea

I finally had my first batch come through today, and as i none smoker i was interesed to see how it would effect me. I bought 5 different cans; general, ettan, level, odens cinnamon and catch mint.

I first tried the catch mint which were mini's and after about 20 mins of it my mouth i began to feel quite nauseated and twitchy with a slight headache. I have never really had nicotine before and i feel this might take some getting used to.

Plus, its not very nice when you touch the portion with your tongue.

I want to do it, but i think this is just a beginners thing. Any Advice?

    Much appreciated.

Nicotine is an extremely toxic poison. Your body is reacting like it should. Nicotine is also highly addictive. That said, you will get used to it if you keep snusing. Sounds totally normal to me.

Try to keep the portion as close to the front of your lip as possible; right next to the stringy-thing. This will minimize juicing.

I am new to snus too. My 1st time ever was Camel Frost. At 1st I liked it, the taste, but then maybe an hour or after, I started feeling terrible, sweaty, nausus, just overall bad. I even felt the need to take a shower, but I was at work, but we have these showers, but I don't think they are even used, and had no hot water, yet I had to, I don't know... cool my body? Anyway, a few hours later I started feeling OK again. I was still curious about snus, and wanted to try real Swedish, before I just gave up the interest. I also was a very random occasional smoker, though at one time I was a regular smoker. So, I guess it was the nicotine, or maybe the sugar? But I took my Camel pouches, cut them in half, sewed up the other end, and tried it like that. Well, it was alot better, not having anything to compare it with, but it didn't make me sick. I then got some General Dry Mini Mint pouches, which so far, is still the best snus I have tired, which isn't but 3 kinds so far. Anyway, these tasted good, decent not too sweet flavor, the pouch was a good texture, and didn't make me feel ill at all, and even wanted me wanting another shortly afterwards. Now I guess these made me less reactive to the nicotine, as yesterday, I tried a Camel Frost whole portion, and while it now is just too sweet for me, it didn't make me feel ill. Then I aquired some more Swedish snus, large white portion Goteborgs Rape, and while I don't really like the taste, it didn't make me feel ill even keeping it in almost an hour.

So, my take is, the dry mini mints was just enough to make my body used to the nicotine, and as a newbie wanting to do this, that'd be my recommendation to start.

Also, out of curiosity, what made you even want to do it, being a non-smoker to begin with? I know many seem to want to switch to stop smoking. My reason was sheer boredom at my sit down job, and an interest(not always good) to try new things I learn about.

Yes, i was just generally interested and fancied trying something different for a change. I mean i took it about 2 hours ago and still feel a bit weird, quite depressed actually.

I will have another go at it, but i hope this doesnt carry on. Thanks for the advice.

You could also just leave it in for a shorter time like 10 minutes and work your way up.

Your body can't handle the nicotine its as simple as that. The nicotine delivery is different from cigarettes and I've seen guys who have been smoking for ten years hurl when I gave them a stark portion.

Personally I'd suggest that you don't take up snus if you aren't addicted to nicotine in the first place, but that is just my opinion.

If you plan on continuing I would suggest using minis for a while but taking them out sooner - after 10-15mins.

Well, you may just not like it, and it may not be for you. I consider myself still at experimental stage, but if I feel so inclined, it may be just a passing fad for me. But I have a few more still I want to try. Or I may just pop one in occasionally.

What is the difference between upper lip and bottom? I know when I was experimenting with Camel Frost, trying to not get sick, I'd switch it to lower, mostly waiting for the sweet juice to use up, and then switched it back to upper. Now for me, I'd hate to stick that pouch dead center in my upper lip. How I've been doing it, is run my tounge on my upper gums, pop a portion in my mouth, and move it with my tounge to the upper side, near the front, but not at the front. It holds in place well, and I don't think it's noticable.

Right, not dead in the center but just to the right is the way to go IMO. You'll start to get used to it and it will give you a comfortable feeling knowing it's there. Some users on the forum place it dead center and after a while the stringy thing will go away.

Connor, what you are experiencing is you body trying to tell you not to put a toxic material in it. You will get used to it with time.

My ex wife tried smoking for the first time, smoked half a pack of cigarettes when she was 18, got violently ill, never touched it again

Like others have said, nicotine is a toxic poison that IS deadly in high doses.

The good thing is, your body builds a tolerance to it very fast.

What did you think was going to happen? The reason those of us around here feel great when we snus is because our bodies CRAVE nicotine. We all have a tolerance so we don't get nauseous or sweaty. Instead, the nicotine relaxes and calms us. From what I can tell, a lot of the snusers around here, including me, are ex-smokers, which is probably why they began snusing.

Why you want to get addicted to nicotine is beyond me. Have you ever suffered withdrawal? Ask a smoker what he/she feels like after a 6 or 7 hour plane ride. Or ask a snuser what it's like at the end of the day when their snus supply has dried up because their new order hasn't arrived yet.

Maybe some of us are searching for a legal "drug", even subconsiously. Maybe that's why I'd order junk from the back pages of High Times?

I really don't know why I wanted to try snus, other than curiosity, but then why did I experiment with other substances either?

I agree with the others in that you should probably just abstain from nicotine completely. It is obviously entirely up to you if you want to start, though.

Like many people here, I started using tobacco as a kid for stupid reasons; I greatly regret smoking for so many years, but I'm glad I have found something that is enjoyable to use and relatively harmless......that's coming from someone who is addicted to nicotine, though, so you have to keep that in mind.

Oh, and if Catch minis knocked you over, I'd run the hell away from that tin of Odens......that would be suicide.

I really hope I didn't come off as mean or anything in my last post.

Not only is nicotine legal, but nicotine is said to be harder to quit than heroin!

I wish I could go back in time and never started smoking. I tried quitting about a year and a half ago and lasted 3 months before the severe depression and mood swings made me cave.

You can do whatever you want. I'm just advising you to maybe think twice before attempting to become addicted to nicotine. Snus is great, I'm not going to lie, but take that with a grain of salt, because it is coming from a nicotine addict. It's just like a heroin addict telling you a certain type of heroin is great... or a crack addict telling you a certain type of crack is great. You get the point.

If you want to enjoy tobacco in a not-very-addictive way, I highly recommend cigars. Taste great, smell awesome, can give a little buzz, and not very addictive. I'm more addicted to buying and collecting them than I am to smoking them!
